Is Everything Junk Now?

Was wondering if anyone else has been having problems with appliances (or anything non truck related) lately? We've been buying a lot more stuff than usual for the new house and it seems like even good quality name brands are just not what they use to be. I bought a 70" Samsung tv and both the HDMI ports will not stay connected or recognize the devise plugged into them. The Firestick constantly crashes and it doesn't recognize the Roku device. All have been updated and I had a Samsung tech try and troubleshoot this for almost 2 hours (he even remote accessed the tv) and he couldn't figure it out. Luckily we bought it though Costco so they immediately sent out a replacement and now the second one is doing the same thing. I pulled out my 10 year old LG tv (which these replaced) and connected both devises and they work fine. So now the second Samsung is going back today and they're delivering an LG which I hope works. One of the CS reps told me his sister has the similar Samsung tv and the same issues with her Firestick and Apple TV devises so it sounds like a common problem. None of the reviews ever stated these problems so that's where the head scratcher comes in. You'd "think" Samsung being know for their tv's and electronics would have this perfected by now?

The second was a Cuisinart countertop microwave. We've both owned Cuisinart products for many years and they're generally more expensive but have always been great. The first microwave tray started skipping and making grinding noises within 3 weeks. Now we only use this for heating up meals and tea/coffee so very mild use. Amazon replaced it and as soon as I started the second one was very loud, like some 30 year old appliance on its last leg. ?‍ Both were boxed back up and returned. Sad thing is the house we're renting still have all the original appliances from 1997 and they all work great! Even the ice maker on the fridge still works and those are usually the first thing dies right when the warranty ends. Man, is anything made well anymore?

Newer appliances are garbage. We've been replacing appliances left and right. The worse were LG, won't ever look at their products again. Have GE now for most and at 3 years old they are acting up. Been replacing everything with kitchenaide. Haven't had them long enough to judge reliability yet. LG it's the worst tv I've ever owned. My 65" samsung has been good. Bought from crutchfield the first one was a defect, they sent a replacement that has worked awesome for 3 years now. Just my experience. YMMV

Yeah I bought a LG washer and dryer a year back, both needed repairs, washer just one but the dryer 3 repairs from faulty sensors, using the automatic mode on high heat caused the sensor to fail 2x, so we don't use it on high anymore.
1st it was Japanese makes reducing quality to compete with the Koreans, now it's the Koreans having to compete with the Chinese, most lower to mid range Samsung and LG TVs are now made in Thailand , Vietnam or Malaysia.

I rebuilt my dishwasher rather than replace it for the same reasons. The galvanized inside door plate was starting to rust after 20 years of use. I could find nothing but trash... expensive trash.

Same for our Stove / Oven. It is a GE Profile Trivection (rebadged Bosch) that cooks food up to 5 times faster. The primary DC voltage board burned out. I replaced it and added a master power switch to the AC inputs to the DC board. It is only used when the oven is selected and is a waste to have it powered 24 / 7. I figure that switch will increase it's useful life well past my time left here on earth.

I rebuilt rather than buy "over priced low quality" appliances.

The house I bought a year back has GE Profile appliances in the kitchen, wouldn't be my choice. The refrigerator has a water filter with a microchip that GE sells for $55 - used to be $50 and they had the audacity to recently raise the price. A filter without the microchip won't work as it's GE proprietary, but I found a hack on the internet where you take a filter with the microchip, steam and peel off the label and paste it over the sensor. Screw GE .

Terrible quality on new stuff it sucks when you have to use your 30 year old microwave when the new one quits been there done that.

Just to add - our daughter has Keurig coffee maker - 2 yrs old, it quit. At 1st I thought it was only the micro switch that senses when the lid is closed, fixed that then learned it also wasn't dispensing the correct amount - the thing was difficult to even take apart. I've since learned from people that Keurigs typically wear out in 2 to 4 yrs - junk.

Every LG appliance has really bad reviews so I've always stayed away from them. Maybe I've been lucky but I've always had good luck with GE Profile appliances. The last one I bought was a French door fridge back in 2020 and it was still running great when I sold the house last June.

For the new house I'm getting a GE stove and dishwasher and a Samsung fridge. I wanted to get the same GE Profile fridge but that same fridge is now $3,000. The Samsung is their new Bespoke model in which they change the whole ice/water design. IIRC they have several class action lawsuits with their older design and all the reviews and videos on this new one were really good but who knows. As much as I hate to I might end up just getting the extended warranty for them or at least the fridge.

I had this fridge in my AZ house and used this video. Just be very careful taking the old chip off so you don't damage it.
