well this site jinxed me - now my GE Profile (junk) refrig is making a steady noise from the upper freezer compartment, apparently this is a common problem with GE junk - they build up ice on the freezer fan. This correlates to my installing a home humidifier a few weeks back to get the humidity up to 30% , but that's no excuse for GE lameness. I also have a GE Profile Range, upper microwave lower oven, the oven is ok the microwave is junk, the genius' at GE decided to use a dial instead of a touch pad to control this thing and I think it's really a stupid design. I looked at the price to buy the unit new and unfathomably it's close to $4k ! The GE dishwash is nice, have no complaints - yet - with that.
I dread the day our GE fridge has an issue. It is such a tight fit in the cabinetry. You'd probably have to empty it and lower the front back down on the rollers to move it out.

That would be a concern as I clean/vacuum the coils annually

Yep, that is another concern. I try to clean, vacuum when it is not actually running so when I disturb dust, it doesn't get sucked up into the coils. I was cleaning underneath with a Swiffer once, I pulled the handle out and there was no Swiffer head. F***! Still up in there as far as I know.

Back a few years ago I corrected a GE freezer that was icing up in the drain pan. My cure.... Wrap a piece of copper wire around the heating element, and point it into the drain hole of the pan. No more problems.

Several years later I had another GE side by side refrigerator that kept icing up the water dispenser. GE angered an attorney who owned the same model as mine. He called the support team and got nowhere, so he sued and won a class action, forcing GE to replace the doors with redesigned ones, or replace the entire unit.

I called to complain about my dispenser freezing up, not knowing about the class action, and GE sent a service man out. He told me that I had one of the units that was affected, and that I would either be getting a new unit or new doors.

GE flew in new doors (thicker) and had the service fellow install them. I remarked at the time that GE most likely paid more to fly those doors in than the cost of the newer mode refrigerator. He agreed and left.

I've had good luck with my latest GE model. I hope I have not jinxed myself by making this statement!

Seems GE Appliances have been improved after the Chinese acquired them, I will admit to harboring an old bias against GE having had their low end line decades back. After hearing the freezer noise early yesterday for several hrs - I went out and by the time I returned it had stopped. But I have heard it in the past albeit at a much lower level and according to google it is not a rare occurrence with GE refrigerators. My ire returned though a year back when I bought the house and inherited the GE refrig - it needed a new water filter and that's when I learned the filter can only be sourced thru GE for a small capacity microchip filter for $50. So I bought a 3 pack of aftermarket filter for $24 and did the hack, GE sends me qtrly mail offering their filter - now priced at $55 with a free shipping incentive. The microchip filter only tracks the amount of water dispensed and triggers a light when it's time to replace - so for that they expect people to pay $55 for their filter ?

I don't believe my GE MWF filters have the chip and they are now $50 too.

Didn't some models also use the chip to disable dispensing water until you replaced the expensive filter?

Yes I think that is correct, unless you do the hack , so nice of GE to try and screw their customers that way .
