I must have looked through hundreds of reviews for all the kitchen appliances we need. I read many stating the same thing you just described having issues with their dishwashers too. The racks wobble all around and skip over the gap and some complain there's no adjustable tines in the lower rack for different size plates & bowls. Most come with a 3rd top rack now and just about everyone says they're useless. They're only good for flat utensils because anything higher will hit the top sprayer. I was really thinking of just putting a pull out trash can or another door where the dishwasher is and use it for storage but have it all plumbed and ready for a dishwasher if needed.
Re ripped our over the stove GE Profile Advantium Microwave Oven and have never looked back. Purchased a high end stainless steel hood to replace it. We use a high end Induction Hot Plate and Pressure Cooker instead. Everything uses less electricity, cooks faster, cleans easier and maintains minerals and vitamins. Big win.

I gave up on those over the range microwaves years ago. The one we had in our AZ died about 4 years ago and I bought a counter one to get us by until we moved. Even that one never worked good as it rattled and the tray skipped. ?‍♂ Right before I put the house up for sale I bought another over the range one and the new owner can do as he pleases once it dies.

The one in my OP was a counter microwave which now seem to be all junk too. I bought this SS hood for the new house and wanted to put a small microwave in the walk in panty just for warming things up. You get a much better exhaust fan with this style which will actually move air and clear a room. Unlike those OTR ones which usually just recirculate the air through a charcoal filter.

I like what you did.

I need to upsize my exhaust duct to 8"-10" diameter. I checked my attic, and found the idiots who built the home ran the correct size right to the roof (through 2 stories), then reduced it the last 2'.

I am researching roof vent options right now.

Thanks, that's not our house just a picture from the manufacturers site. It'll be another 4-6 weeks before the kitchen is installed. They're custom cabinets not boxed ones. My HVAC guy vented it on the rough in. It calls for a 6" duct and I asked him if I should go larger but he said for a 30" hood and the amount of cfm this one has it'll be more than enough. I'm only going up about 8'-10' right through the roof on a 1 story.

funny story. when i got divorced in 2015 i went to sears to buy a washer and dryer set. Kenmore at the time was made by whirlpool and had excellent reviews on consumer reports. I was talking with the salesman and noticed most of the washers didn't have agitators. I asked the salesman how it works without an agitator. He said the machine sucks water in an out. I said "How does that get your clothes clean?". He looked me straight in my eyes and said "it won't.". lol. I bought a model with the agitator.

Buy one cry once and buy speedqueen washer and dryers. All mechanical controls and they last a long time. it is the brand that most laundry mats use. My sister has a mobile dog grooming business and does 1-2 loads of towels a day. regular washer/dryer would only last a year or 2. She has had speedqueens now for 15 years and no issues. Best part about them is they actually get your clothes clean.

This!! Our washer died in 2019 and I looked all over for one with an agitator and finally I found a GE washer with one at Costco. I knew about SpeedQueen but wasn't ready to spend that much on at the time but that will definitely be our next one. Everyone says their cloths come out so much better and much cleaner. The basic one doesn't have all the electronic buttons either just old school knobs which I prefer.

One thing I hate about the newer ones is that they have that darn nanny lid lock on them. Another useless device like those outlet covers. Just let your kids find out the hard way like we did. Once you stick your finger in an outlet you learn pretty quickly not to do it again. lol

Every LG appliance has really bad reviews so I've always stayed away from them. Maybe I've been lucky but I've always had good luck with GE Profile appliances. The last one I bought was a French door fridge back in 2020 and it was still running great when I sold the house last June.

For the new house I'm getting a GE stove and dishwasher and a Samsung fridge. I wanted to get the same GE Profile fridge but that same fridge is now $3,000. The Samsung is their new Bespoke model in which they change the whole ice/water design. IIRC they have several class action lawsuits with their older design and all the reviews and videos on this new one were really good but who knows. As much as I hate to I might end up just getting the extended warranty for them or at least the fridge.
We bought a new house a year ago and went with the Samsung Bespoke 4 drawer fridge and Frigidaire Gallery for the rest. Absolutely love the fridge but like you said, it does have a history of problems with the ice maker, which btw is a friggin awesome feature ?, but ours has been solid so far ??.

Agree that the the quality of appliances these days is not what it once was. It is unfortunate. I do highly recommend the Breville line for espresso machines ☕

Good to see you Scott and congrats on your new house!

Good to hear that the Samsung Bespoke fridge has been working out for you. I watched a bunch of videos on it and a couple were from repair men and said they totally redesigned the ice maker. It's now makes ice into a tray (like the old plastic ones) from above the ice bucket and flips them over when ready so there's no auger to malfunction anymore. I like the water pitcher design (ours will be inside the fridge door) but heard the magnet has to be placed just right or it won't fill.

PS...send me your new address and I'll send you a damper as a house warming gift. ?

I had a lot of planning for the new house and move and took a long break from here too.

I see my work is never done! ?‍♂

You could just send the coordinates and I can air mail it to you. ?

If you live in a rural area, make sure you can get LG and Samsung serviced easily. Up at my cabin, the local dealers told me to get Whirlpool, since that was the only brand that had local repairmen. The others were a 2-3 week wait.

Well, as disappointed as I am with the clunkiness, it does clean well, as previously mentioned. Hardly every have to reclean.

well this site jinxed me - now my GE Profile (junk) refrig is making a steady noise from the upper freezer compartment, apparently this is a common problem with GE junk - they build up ice on the freezer fan. This correlates to my installing a home humidifier a few weeks back to get the humidity up to 30% , but that's no excuse for GE lameness. I also have a GE Profile Range, upper microwave lower oven, the oven is ok the microwave is junk, the genius' at GE decided to use a dial instead of a touch pad to control this thing and I think it's really a stupid design. I looked at the price to buy the unit new and unfathomably it's close to $4k ! The GE dishwash is nice, have no complaints - yet - with that.
