Just my luck, first for the bad stuff, but never first for the good stuff LOLWow, that's strange. Honestly, I think you're the first person I've seen to have this issue.
Unfortunately, I'm past the 30k miles warranty for bumper to bumper. I'm gonna take it in and see what they say though next week.Bumper to bumper warranty.
I've thought about this, and it may be a path I end up taking, but I'll have to do it to all 4 doors so that it matches.looks like the fake metal coating is coming off the plastic. id be tempted to peel all of it off and spray paint it silver.
FYI, the bumper-to-bumper warranty is 3yr/36,000 mi. just in case you might be on the edgeJust my luck, first for the bad stuff, but never first for the good stuff LOL

The day before I noticed it, I did use the Chemical Guys stuff.....but I've used it before with no issues. Maybe missed that spot when wiping off? Dunno, either way it's oddif you're unwilling to peel it off/spraypaint, I'm sure you can find a new one for a ridiculous price.
curious what cleaning chems you might use?
really sweaty passenger resting their elbow on the door?
sun angle when parked at home/work?
I wonder if it would peel off now that it's bubbled/cracked, and then I could recover it with a heat shrink vinyl ?No you are not alone, it's a relatively common issue on rangers over here. It's because on the higher specced models Ford covers the plastic door handle in Chrome / stainless steel foil - a bit like the wheel nuts. On lower specced models it's just painted silver, or left as black plastic, depending on the trim colour.
And after a bit of use, and I daresay some hot weather, the foil bubbles up, and starts to come off - just like the wheel nuts.
Be very careful with that because the seam in the wrap is stupidly right on the edge where you put your finger in. My passenger side front door has bubbled badly and my wife cut her finger on the sharp edge of the foil one day. I hadn't bothered to replace it because I rarely have passengers, and replacing involves dismantling half the door card.
I would go down stairs and take a pic to show you but I have a busted leg at the moment.
