HI K,

Impressive! Well Done. I think your angle flange to the box end box section adds sufficient strength to make this very robust. How many gallons is the Rotopax? At around 7lbs a gallon for gasoline I think you will be just fine. What gauge is the metal matrix?

Kudos,

Thanks! Yeah, the bend definitely adds a good amount of strength in the back. I think the part should be strong enough for the rotopax, I designed it for a 2 gallon since that's about all you can fit between the tie down hooks. Just need to confirm. I also made this prototype out of 5052 Al, .125" thk. since its easy to work with, but steel would give a bit more strength. I can always add another anchoring point to the chassis on the top left area if it needs more strength.

Got some prototype racks made and installed in my truck, pretty happy with them so far! I made these a bolt on install, no drilling. There is a mounting pattern in the center to mount a rotopax, but I've yet to test that part out yet (need to get one). Hopefully I can get one in quick to test it and make sure its strong enough for off-road duty.

Would you be willing to share more details? I think this would be a great option for people who don't want the whole side of their bed covered like the Valhalla kit. How much did it cost to get this made? Do you think it would be worth doing a small group buy / small manufacturing run?

Not even sure you'd be willing to do something like that. :fingerscrossed:

Me personally, I'd like to have a pry bar and, small axe, small shovel permanently stowed in the bed wall. As a minimum anyway.

I’ve got two in my cart, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Shipping for $60 seems a little pricey, and I’m not sure why these are almost double the price of the BuiltRight version made for a Tacoma. Visually I can’t see what causes them to be so expensive, but I’m not familiar with either companies products. I need to purchase something soon, I’ve got a lot of equipment to mount.

Any interest in selling these?

Im considering maybe setting up a group buy if enough people would be interested! Just had the chance to fit a rotopax to the rack and it looks like I need to tweak a few dimensions to get it perfect. I may do another prototype rev to confirm it. I'd also need to get some quotes on powder coating and Sheetmetal parts at qty. to get an idea of how much it would go for, but I'm working on it.
