They tried doing that again in 2021 with a clunkers for EVs program Schumer proposed. Wanted to increase EV sales and remove ICE vehicles. Luckily they were stopped by the impact it would have on lower income families loosing affordable transportation down the road. As you know, in reality we could be one election away from it happening from here on.

You guys forgot about General Motors with On Star. They can shut vehicles down as well and it was advertised years ago. I remember back in middle school and that was 2005-2006

With Fords great reputation for quality  I could see this causing all kinds of problems in the future .

Odd the article keeps saying 2024. So is the news 2 years old? Good job Yahoo
The way I read that, it isn't necessarily that the news is 2 years old, but that the tech is available on 2024 MY and newer. I'm assuming it has something to do with the software that's currently in the vehicle, since they said that if you were buying a used 2024 or older, you should check what version of Sync it has. It seems that this is a new patch piggy-backing onto pre-existing tech:

"Start Inhibit requires SYNC 4 software version 2.1.6.4 or later, so trucks running an older build need a software update before the feature does anything at all, worth checking before you assume a used or dealer-stock truck already has it live."

The Bronco video is really sketchy IMO. I find it unlikely Ford or a creditor is going to shut you down after a single missed payment. Maybe he hasn't made any payments for the months since he's had it and they had enough?

The Ford says the app won't shut it off while driving.

He wasn't in the middle of the freeway as he claims, but at a traffic light, possibly/probably stopped at that light when it shut down. Maybe it was stopped at the light and the auto start/stop kicked in, then the app disabled it?

I'd guess a break down is just as likely as the app, maybe in the electrical system preventing restart, and maybe affecting why the hazard lights aren't on?

If he's missing payments, even one, I have reduced sympathy for him, and more skeptical of the situation. It says something about his character. Maybe he's missed all his payments and though he could get away with it until they physically catch up to him? Even if it's only one payment, do better.

As to the app itself, I think it's a great feature to allow owners direct access to their own vehicles, rather than GM OnStar which involves phone calls and their control of your vehicle. It's a p!ss off they only offer it free for 1 year, and $8/month after that. With or without the app, the tech is likely in every new vehicle sold these days, so manufacturer or LEO could probably bring it to bear on any vehicle with appropriate warrant, this at least gives some control to the owner.

Nope, OnStar is mentioned on the first page in the first 5 replies.

That's what I think happened. And even if it is for what he claimed, I myself would be embarrassed that that happened and wouldn't post about it. But to some people, "clicks/likes/views" are more important I guess than being a responsible adult.

What do you wanna bet the click/ like/ views are what he's planning to make the payments with.

Or maybe he actually stole the truck and the cops had it shutdown 😲. Doesn't look like a Bronco owner to me 😆. Something is fishy 🦈🐟🐠🐳.
