If I opt to not pay for AT&T data, will that impact other features?

I should have done that. Signed up for trial & only way to cancel is to call which I forgot to do last 2 months. I have to do it this week. I’m wasting money I’d rather keep lol.

How do they bill you if you didn't put payment info in?

On a rare occasion I do a trial subscription I always add a reminder on my phone a couple days ahead of the deadline. If I don't (like you) I'll forget and they'll start billing. That's why I hate direct withdrawal because you usually forget to stop it once you cancel that service, this is what they count on.

I pay $75-80 for high speed internet an $45 for my unlimited phone plan. I ditched cable an went with YouTube TV. It used to be $45 a month with 70 channels now it's $65 for like 88 channels. Three people can watch at a time on youtube tv so you could split the cost with some friends. Now they're fighting with espn to see if they're going to carry them or if disney is moving espn to the app only. the good news is YouTube tv said they will reduce the price $15 if espn pulls out. I won't pay for disney. I will "borrow" a password if a game is on I want to see.

I pay enough without paying for a plan for my truck. I guess if needed I could make my phone a hotspot for the truck.

If they pull ESPN I may consider YouTube TV at $50 a month.

I would as soon watch paint dry as watch ESPN so it grates on me that I have to pay for something I never watch.

that's why I take a more ala carte position with the streaming I get. I don't pay for any of the services that pile lots of channels in because it gets into the realm of paying for stuff I don't watch. I miss some things as a result, but that's kinda what the current fractured world of streaming is doing to us.

I wish more services offered digital movie rentals individually. Amazon and Fandango do, but some movies are "locked" behind other services that require monthly fees to access them.

As for the truck modem, it's not super practical for most folks who already have unlimited data on their phone plans. The only benefit you might get from it at that point is different coverage. Which may or may not be better than your phone carrier. I know for me, coverage is typically no better than my phone plan (with Verizon). Verizon easily has the best coverage in my area. Usually AT&T is terrible, but the truck probably manages better than most AT&T phones because it has a better antenna and more powerful receiver. But it still doesn't tend to pick up anything when my phone doesn't, either.

I’d like to add that it should be law that if you can sign up online or app you should be allowed to cancel that way also not forced to actually call to cancel. Should be no harder to cancel than it did to sign up.
