I went to a fancy wedding in my manual Ranger years ago, I had to park it for the valet and he still had the nerve to ask for a tip.

One of the golden rules in our family is that if you wanted to get your driver's license you had to be proficient in driving a stick, no ifs and or buts. My 2 brothers and I also had to know how to change a flat prior to getting a license.
Who remembers bumper jacks???

44, but I've heard of it just never seen one in person that I remember. Then again, my family had a lot of old cars when I was a kid but I wasn't paying attention then.

You're a young one, 65 here.
Learned how to drive stick on my Dad's '47 Ford panel delivery, flathead V-8 with a 3 on the tree.
That was one tough vehicle, it took abuse from it's owner and his 3 sons...
More often that not, the poor 6 volt starter would refuse to cooperate, this resulted in my Dad hurling expletives at the poor truck, and the 3 of us pushing it down the street with my Dad behind the wheel.

Do you know the life cycle of a bumper jack was at Ford. 25 up and down cycles is all. So if you used the bumper jack to rotate tires, you used about ¼ of the jack's life... ?

Hi Jeff,

Also 25 cycle on the bottle jacks too. The test was performed at the experimental garage for some programs. Stick the jack under a fully laden truck on the left rear of the rear axle. Then use a special extension hooked to an air ratchet. Up and down 25 time....Jack passes. If the jack failed...a post moratorium is done and back to the drawing board. Now days the supplier of the jack self certifies the performance.
