This is an interesting thread. I got a pair of DayTRAX puddle lights from BrightLights LLC and they threw in some LED license plate bulbs. I immediately thought they would be an issue so I installed them in the wife's Honda instead.

Some modification to the Ranger - whether re-design or electronic - would be a nice touch but I doubt Ford would do that. Dimming LED's vs. switching them off would be one consideration whereas it's simpler/cheaper to do that with incandescents.

Really? I get an awful glare in the camera when backing up. I wonder if it varies by vehicle for some reason? I'm thinking of adding some tint to the lens to cut down the brightness.
I used a phone privacy screen protector it seems to help a ton without sacrifice to being able to see the plate
