What is MAP?
Michigan Assembly Plant. The whole plant was closed for spring/summer break. That's where they make the Ranger and the new full size Bronco.

OK thanks. I knew it was in Wayne, forgot what exactly they called it. I'm hoping there's a big problem with the Bronco, so all they can do is build Rangers! :)

Me and Jim @wanted33 are hoping for the opposite. We both have Broncos on order and hope they stop production on the Ranger so we can get ours before we're to old to drive. ?

Hopefully you'll lose that bet, and obviously if I could have found one on the lot I'd be driving it. I'd be test driving the new generation 2022 Frontier before I wait six months, and I don't want to be in any pickup that doesn't say Ford or Chevy on it. You're likely Debbie Downer SNL skit!
I'm not trying to bring you down. I'm trying to be realistic. There's no way I'd order a vehicle right now. Especially a Ford. Especially a Ranger.

Chip shortages are a bigger deal than they're letting on. Both Ford and Chevy are parking fullsize trucks waiting for chips. Industry, microchip industry NOT automotive industry, folks are expecting the issue to last well into next year. On top of that Ranger shares a plant with Bronco which they've been selling for almost a year and the Ranger gets rebuilt , maybe, next model year.

What were you'd looking for? Bet I could find one somewhere. I'd go accross country for a truck I want now before ordering one.

And, yes, for your sake I hope I'd loose that bet too.

To keep expectations in check, if I were you, I'd hope for the best and plan for 6 months.

Thanks D Fresh. I do appreciate your perspective, I really have no idea what to expect. And I wouldn't mind driving a few hundred miles either. I may just do some searching. Just because I'm not in a hurry by necessity doesn't mean I actually have much patience!

I drove by a big Ford dealer in NC on Saturday.

Their lot looked like a ghost town.

They had way more used vehicles than new.

I would guesstimate that they might have had <50 new vehicles total?

All the lots around here are pretty bare. Glad I won't be in the market for a bit.

Here 's the timeline for my Lariat RWD order:

Ordered placed 2/17/2021
VIN received 03/20/2021 (probably issued earlier in the week)
DELAYED - Scheduled build date 04/26/2021 (This might be the build week, not entirely sure yet.)
Scheduled build date 04/28/2021
Window sticker available 04/21/2021
Estimated delivery: 05/19/2021
Estimated delivery: 05/22/2021

Estimated delivery: 05/20/2021
Actual Delivery: 05/12/2021

Not trying to bring you down but plan on waiting at least a full three months. I believe the shortages have become even worse since I ordered in Feb. Really hope it gets to you sooner though. Stay strong and good luck!

@FirstNewTruck Wade, bite your tongue sir. What Dave @AzScorpion said. I will say, the wait for your Ranger is going to be a lot shorter than Dave, and my Bronco's will. I ordered mine on 03/03/20, and I will be surprised if I see it before the fall of next year. Now that's a wait. :)

That's insane. I didn't know they would leave orders open that long. I'm 64 not sure I'll be around if it takes a year and a half :) You could always order a 300,000 dollar retromod Bronco, those look awesome!

Well maybe they'll go in high gear and surprise us all. Old fashioned American production miracle or something.

Today I checked in with the fleet manager who ordered my truck back in April and he said there is no update for me, its still being scheduled, no VIN. I am at 8+ weeks so far but with the manufacturing plant being closed for 2 weeks, technically I am at week 6. In the meantime, I'm working extra and volunteering to take OT in order to stack money so when the truck does come in I'll have more than 75% of it paid off. Thats my plan anyways. Plus my 2002 Ranger is running okay still.
