Follow up to my earlier comment in this post...
I rolled up to my local O'Rieley Auto Farts store this weekend to see about ordering a battery. Every time a battery dies, I always end up getting "something that works" but never what I really need or want. Since the Ranger has the tell that your ASS feature stops working, I have plenty of advanced notice.

I'm on the far north side of Phoenix about 10 miles from the county line between Maricopa and Yavapai counties. Not really rural, but lets call it distant suburban. We are the last of a lot of things before you head out into Arizona. Last restaurant, last gas, l last Walmart for like 90 miles.

So we are out there... And that means usually low inventory of anything you want and you settle for a lot. With a camping trip coming up I wanted to get a GOOD battery. Figured ordering would have it here in time.

I spec'd out the Lariat battery since it is a little larger and fits just like a glove in the tray. Asked the guy how long to get it? He said 5 minutes. I was shocked. They had 24 in inventory and another 30 of the smaller XL/XLT sized batteries. A total of 54 PREMIUM AGM Ranger Batteries in stock in a town where you don't always get what you want but you make do with something close.

I asked why so many? He said "Because Rangers chew through batteries." So I got a 3 year warranty and I said I'd see him in 18 months.

Reading the comments in this thread I see where cooler more moderate climates last longer. I'm wondering If there is a way to add a Cold Air Intake to channel air past the battery. I know our 117 degree summers are hard on them - especially when the air coming up off the tarmac is closer to 125.

The battery in my 2013 Fusion was in the trunk and it lasted 7 years out here. Seems like anything you do to shield it or cool it helps.

I suspect there was a batch of bad batteries in the 2019s. Mine was flaky from the start, and I feel like I've seen a lot fewer people reporting issues in later years.

Have driven turbo Saabs which in the interest of mpg and emissions ran very hot - dated engine design, battery failures were common so GM did add a ducting system in later models to cool the battery. Don't think it was much effective as by my own tests the temps spiked markedly when car was shut down and even more so when parked in a garage. I then began to leave my garage open and raise the hood in the summer - and batteries began to last 5 to 6 yrs vs the previous avg of ~ 3 yrs. Increases in sulfation have a direct correlation with higher temps - and underhood temps will usually climb highest when vehicle is parked. But when moving I would think there is plenty of airflow in the Ranger.
I'm suspecting Ford's battery mgnt system itself might be playing a large role in early batt failures by consistently limiting the percent of charge.

I'm curious. Why won't a battery from a Lariat fit in the XLT? I would think the tray and everything would be the same, but I don't know.
It will and does.
I'm driving proof of it.

Lariat gets a bigger battery because of the amount of electronics on it. But it fits just fine.

So what are our Ranger batteries going for these days?
My last purchase was for our Camry this year and I was shocked at 167.00 at the battery's plus store with discount codes. I think I saw 362 on their website for Ranger.

Just had mine replaced at dealer, under warranty. Service writer showed me the order slip, $379 for battery. Glad it was still under warranty.

$230 - If it lasts as long as Motorcraft's batteries (18 months) that's 43 cents a day. If it makes the full 2 years its 32 cents a day. And if it hit's the 3 year warranty, that's 21 cents a day.

My Interstate battery was $220 (H6) with a 3 yr free replacement warranty. Motorcraft only has a 2 yr warranty. The guy at NTB said the H7 I wanted wouldn’t fit but didn’t specify why. If not the footprint/size, maybe it was the post placement? In either case they told me it wouldn’t last any longer than the H6 because of our climate (steamy Gulf Coast). ?

About a month or so ago, I noticed the ASS quit working, although I've learned to manipulate it with the brake pedal. But it def quit working. Then I noticed a notice to the effect of "battery saving mode" in both app and console. Center console has gone completely dark - can't turn it on all. Every now and then it will light up and give the correct date and time and then go dark when I first get in the vehicle before starting up the engine. After reading through this thread, I suspect my battery. I checked my app, it says the same thing about battery saving. My Ranger is a 2020 XL with MFR date of November 2019; I purchased it in Feb of 2020 with 100 miles on it. I have an appt with the dealer next Saturday to hopefully sort it out. I have 25.6K miles on it. Hoping for a good result.

Had no idea the Lariat had a larger battery. Anyone know why? Is it just better because the truck trim costs more, or is there an electrical reason for it?

18-24 months in AZ Phx heat seems about right. I used to live in S Florida when young. Batteries don't last long there either. Now I am in the cool/mild PNW and also keep my vehicles (Ranger included) in a cool garage most of the time. My other vehicles usually go 4-5 years on the OEM battery. TBD on the Ranger.
