I'm an automotive technician and I hate hood struts. 25+ years of peoples hoods not staying open drives me nuts. I figured my base model XL wouldn't come with them and they did. One of them blew out last week and dumped oil all over the inside of the engine bay. I can buy a new set and expect to buy them again and again or get a regular old hood prop that'll likely never fail.WHY? Are the struts going bad? I just have to ask, not being too nosey.
I work at a shop in Tempe if you come by I'll swap out for you. My dampers are dead though. It is tempting and I'm closer than you and could beat you there.

Thanks for the offer. I'm not under my hood enough to really care whether it's a prop rod or hood struts.I work at a shop in Tempe if you come by I'll swap out for you. My dampers are dead though.
Same offer as I said above. Drop by my shop and I'll swap them out.Yes it is.
I have only the two "dampers" that came under the hood with the truck when I bought it late 2020. I'm happy with them as they work just fine...but thanks for the offer!Same offer as I said above. Drop by my shop and I'll swap them out.

I’ve only had a few vehicles with hood struts but I’ve never had an issue with them failing. Canopies, yes. Station wagon hatches, yes. Hoods, no. Apparently, it’s a thing so lucky me.This ^^^^ 30 years as a tech i hate hood struts. Much rather have prop rod or spring hinges.
