Since there are none out there on the market I just made my own.
I had a large sheet of .120 diamond plate laying around, a miller spool gun for aluminum not doing anything lately and a week off from work (staycation).

Took a couple days and used my plastic skid plate as the template.

That's very cool. Great job!!! I was looking for a more robust skid plate for my gas tank. Can't seem to find one

Pretty sure my FX4 has a plastic skid over the tank. Now, the tank is also a heavy duty plastic, right?

Would I be way off in thinking sharp objects might not penetrate a fuel tank so easily, given the flexible nature of not 1 but 2 layers of poly materials - the skid and the tank bottom?

I can see metal skids to prevent sheering off hard equipment from the running gear and other metal components. Wonder the likelihood of a fuel tank rupture during (more than likely) slower speeds in off road environments. A rock might push up, gouge and flex the skid and tank, but hopefully not penetrate it.

Then again, maybe i'm wishfully thinking to get out of spending more money ;)

That looks awesome! Do you think it needs a couple more drain vents? Do you foresee a lot of water (or even mud) being trapped in it from off-roading?

Where the gas tank is located on these trucks the likelihood of hitting the tank is low. The tank is above the frame rails, you'll most likely smack the frame first. Do you need to go spending your hard earned money on one, probably not.
I did it because, I had the materials laying around, I have the skills to build it, I was bored, and it was fun.
Side note I came from building rock crawlers so it's just in my nature to armor everything. I'll be chopping up the rear end soon to build a high clearance rear bumper.

You do you and just have fun

I live in the desert, all I got is rocks and dirt around me. If I was in a wetter area I would have thrown some extra drainage in. If I do get any water in there it's just going to roll out the back when you hit the throttle, it's not boxed in.
