I just got a brand new topper installed on my 2020 Ranger. After leaving the topper shop I noticed that during the install they had left the high mount brake/bed light fully functioning. Knowing this might make it harder to see behind every time I pressed the brake at night, I drove back to the topper shop and asked if they could turn the brake light off or unhook the bulbs. The salesman said they couldnt do that because it causes issues with the comput. Anyone have a fix for this? Seems like there would be something....a dummy bulb or something? thx

you could wrap some black automotive vinyl around the light housing to minimize glare

Its a light bulb........ How in the he'll is it going to mess with the computer? Unless you have a lariat with the led you should be fine. It it were me I would remove just the bulb.

The body computer may store a code for a bulb out, but I'm not sure if the dash would alert you or anything. I switched my stock XLT incandescent one for a LED CHMSL from an F-150 and it hasn't caused any issues. I didn't use FORScan to tell the computer I was using an LED brake light. The cargo lights even still fade out just like the original.

I found this on a website: Third Brake Light Cover - Aluminum Body - 2015 - 2021 Ford Trucks (bulletproofdiesel.com) . It's a cover plate if you were to remove the third brake light entirely. The Ranger and F-150 use the same third brake light. They sell it as a cover for their antenna mounts, so I honestly don't know if it would sit properly against the cab.

The two different CHMSL's did have different locating tabs on the plug. The plug has its clip on one side, and on the other side there are three spots for a locating tab: | | | If you were to number them 1, 2, & 3 my stock one used 1 & 2, and the LED version used 2 & 3. They both shared the center one. I just used a utility knife and cut the tab off of the LED CHMSL's plug. Then it plugged right in.
