i like the magnets. wonder how those will hold over time
I was going the small engine filter method where you pull out the filter and then JB Weld hardwar cloth on those then gasket cement them in place.

However, I like this method with one piece and magnets. I also wonder about what magnets should be used. I have experience with these tow sizes for my BedRug. The small ones weren't strong enough but they could be ideal for this installation - I'd probably try to attach the magnets to the hardware cloth just to stop them falling down if they ever got loose (tie wrap or JB Weld them to the hardware cloth).

The large ones would probably be overkill.

$6 for six 30# pull magnets - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08C7SXBKZ

$36 for two 100# pull magnets - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08GCP8MXW

I got some itty bitty neodymium magnets for another project awhile back and they do a nice job. the ones I have would fit right through the holes on the hardware cloth, though. I think the 30# pull ones would likely do the job with less risk of moving/falling off from vibration or jarring

Thanks for that insight, I'll order some of the 30# ones and give this a try and post about it. But that won't be until spring.

Let's just hope those stoopid squirrels don't figure out magnetism. =D

They'll probably eat them and be permanently stuck to the air intake.

This will stop mice or squirrels from getting into the air box or cabin filter:
"You take that tool and crimp it" gave me a chuckle referring to the slip joint pliers or as my dad called them channel locks.

Squirrels can be real fu%$%$^ers. Do you think they would be able to get that screen pulled away from the magnets? I do like the install as you could make it look pretty clean and it would be easy to remove if one had the need too.

Those brick magnets are very strong.

Found mouse scat on my engine cover, issued this mod:

And this was done a while back:

So engine covers attract vermin!

Enjoy!
