Y'all have any recommendations on a better solution that would give me CarPlay without having to trade in the truck?

No matter what option you use, they ALL will need programed to the VIN# of your truck to get the HVAC to integrate to the modules.
It is highly possible this is all it needs, but the only way to tell is using Forscan to read the new units module data.
No matter what you install, this action MUST be performed if you want the HVAC controls to integrate with the truck.
This is NOT an old school system of years past where you can just throw anything in, and it works.

Yes, find a wrecked Ranger and pull the OEM center stack, then have in programmed. I think there are new OEM aftermarket units that will come pre-programmed with your VIN. Now, whether the AC controls will work with your truck????

I personally think another part of the issue aside from the ficm programming is the fact that your truck came equipped with a single zone a/c and your new head unit is dual which is not going to be a happy match.

I would hope that the new head unit had programming for both. Once he gets it communicating with the truck over Canbus it should pick the correct display.

@airline tech is correct, any module/device communicating over Canbus needs to be programmed with the vehicles VIN#. There are also settings in Forscan for signal or dual A/C type which will be picked up once communication is established.

i got Forscan and the usb adapter that the forscan.org recommends and now I get an “FCIM: Unable to read DTC” error when I connect and I have the aftermarket radio installed. Do you know if there’s any way around this or is this module just doomed?

Thank you so much for your help by the way ??

thank you all it turns out they sent me a the European climate control module :/. The AliExpress seller put me in touch with a technical team and and that was the conclusion. Luckily the only change to make it the North American module was to move a resistor on the board to a different location. Took me like 5 min and got everything working now. I attached a picture to show how cool it looks haha

Glad you got it worked out! please keep us posted on how you like it and any issues you discover. Also what vendor did you get it from? it sounds like the support was very good consiering you are dealing with China.

Thx

FWIW, I have had very good experiences with AliExpress and Alibaba. Equal to or better than Amazon, and far better than eBay. I'd venture to say a great deal of what Amazon sells is sourced directly from Alibaba wholesellers.

AliExpress is part of the AIibaba Group.
