Buddy convinced me to meet him in Oklahoma to do a public land bow hunt for whitetail. He really had to twist my arm. I hate cold weather hunting! ? ?

Neither one of us knows a damn thing about the area, but we’re gonna give it a go. Over the counter nonresident tags is a plus.

850 miles each way for me.

Heading out early AM on the 26th. Hunting 27-31 Dec and then return trip on New Years Day.

Taking the truck in next Tuesday for the works. I’m also going to get a new battery, probably Duralast Platinum H6, since the ASS quit working even after I didn’t disable it. When I take a long drive it works until it sits in the driveway a day or two.

Buddy wanted me to fly into Dallas and drive up with him, but no way I could bring enough cold weather and hunting gear on the plane.

Short notice unplanned trip…nothing to worry about, right ????

I just hit 50k on the truck and this trip will put me at 18k since I bought it in Feb 23.

What is “cold”? Extended forecast for OKC and south of there is 50-60 F daytime temperatures.

Up on the Kansas border. I checked the average temps for that week. If it stays above 25 I’ll be ecstatic lol

Yeah that’s tough sitting weather. Hunted on Drummond Island in the U.P. between Christmas and New Year’s once. Never got out of the teens. Didn’t see a deer but did find s shed in my bait pile so I called it a win ? Good luck and safe travels!

My mom is from St Ignace. I tried hunting UP in Nov once, fortunately I shot a deer within 5 minutes of sitting down…it was 11 degrees with a foot of snow on the ground. ?

The thought of those temps gives me chills lol. I complain when it gets below 40 lol. But opening day here is Aug 15th and sitting in a stand when it’s 95 and humid with a million mosquitoes isn’t fun either lol. Good luck and enjoy the trip!!!

No, Renting an early 1900 house in middle of no where. I’m not a winter camper unless it’s the Gulf Coast lol

Understanding you are thinking of replacing the battery before going I highly suggest going to Batteries Plus and get the X2 or go to the Ford Dealership and get a Motocraft battery. Those two will have a better warranty and chances are a better warranty compared to most Auto Parts Stores

What area are you hunting? Peak rut has passed but deer are still moving. I'll be out doing some morning hunts that week
Whitetail. Basically a scouting trip for a longer hunt next year. If we see a shooter buck we’ll consider it a success.

Checking a couple of the large Lake WMAs on KS border (Hulah) and a couple OLPA sites we found on the OLPA maps.

837 mile day! Headwind and winter gas only got 20.5 mpg, down about 3-4 mpg from summer blend. Good thing gas prices have eased a bit. Lowest fill up. Had never been into OK from the east. I liked what I saw and there were even bear crossing signs. That was a surprise. Long day. Scouting in the morning for an after set.

Trip ended up getting cut short. My hunting buddy had a death in the family. Took two days to get home Because I was not driving straight through again, lol. We were staying in Pawhuska, OK which turned out to be a really cool little town. Apparently, brought back from death by The Pioneer Woman (ask your wives, lol). The food in her restaurants was absolutely amazing! Had no idea.

Only saw a couple does on 3 sits while there. Area looked amazing.

Round trip was 1700 miles. MPG came out a hair over 21. Not bad for a loaded truck driving 75-77 mph.

One concern was a couple instances of rear end seeming to thunk when kicking the cruise control off and truck slowing. Other than that truck was awesome. Still loving the heated seats. First vehicle I’ve ever had with them.
