I'm looking into something like this if I were to buy one with said brace ;0
im under the impression that removing the brace makes it legal again. the foam cap is not mentioned any place in the brace ban wording so i guess its legal also. who knows these days.

When I was looking at them many were offered with the buffer tube totally enclosed in a foam sleeve. I assume this is the configuration they want them in (for now) until they find another reason to go after them.

I haven't tried. But I'm pretty sure that one could shoulder a buffer tube fairly easy.;)

so i removed the brace from my ar. im a law following kinda guy. put the lil shock wave brace and straps in the trash assuming that if they think someone even owns the parts its a likely a felony. talk about annoying. i got one of those foam buffer tube cap things to keep dust out and keep the tube from grinding into my fore arm. any one else try those yet?

Has the pistol brace rule hit the federal registry officially and become an actual rule yet?

Here's a few more for grins and giggles

First up: Springfield 1842 - Union troops rifle. 0.69 caliber ball - ouch

Springfield 1884 Trapdoor. First US military cartridge rifle, used by Custer and crew. 45-70 Government cartridge.

1898 Krag Jorgenson. Used in the Spanish American war. This one was in the Philipine War in 1899. It had a magazine, but it was tough to load, and we were outgunned. This led to the development of the M1903.

Here's what I found. It looks like you have until 5/31/23 to register them. BUT, it looks like they're waving the $200 tax stamp if you do it by 5/31 as long as it wasn't a factory installed brace.

https://www.pewpewtactical.com/pistol-braces-and-the-atf/

Q: If I register, how long do I have, do I have to pay the $200 tax, and does the gun need to be marked?

A: The Final Rule was published on Jan. 31, 2023, so owners have 120 days to bring a firearm into compliance – making the deadline May 31, 2023.

The ATF is waiving the $200 tax for pistols and rifles with braces for applications received between Jan. 31 and May 31. If you register after May 31, you will be subject to the $200 tax. There is no limit on the number of firearms you can register.

Also, if you own a lower receiver with a factory-installed brace, you will have to pay the $200, as the exemption is only applicable to already completed firearms.

Traditionally, if you make an SBR, you must mark it, but the ATF says that no additional marking is required so long as the gun is already stamped with the manufacturer’s information.

You folks probably know this, but in case you don't:

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) was issued a lot of military 1911's. The CMP is in the process of selling those weapons to the public.

Here's a link:

1911 Information - Civilian Marksmanship Program (thecmp.org)

I am in the queue to get one of those. They are slightly pricey, but much less than they sell for at auctions and online sites. Plus, they are authentic USGI 1911's.

I don't expect to get mine until about May or so.

I believe you can still mail order an M1 Garand also. Again, much cheaper than the open market.
