I was thinking of buying a gas furnace to stash, maybe I'll keep an eye out for "old stock" gas h2o tanks. This energy star crap has destroyed appliance longevity, unless they are designing the shorter lifespan into them to keep the orders coming. They say 8 to 10 years for a washers life now an they're $1,000 plus. My mom had the same for 25 years but it didn't have 22 cycle choices an it used enough water to actually clean clothes.
Well all be using washboards in the river and clothes line in the backyard and like it.
i got a new maytag washer four years ago. within two years it was already having issues and needing repair. few months back it broke again. the repair guy came out and said i dont wanna rip you off its not worth paying me to fix it. for the cost of what it needs you can go get a new one... nice of him to be honest but sad for the quality of the machine. when i was a kid our washer and dryer were both about ten years older than me and they both worked fine no repairs until the mid 1990s. i think whirlpool maytag and a few other brands are all one owner.
Just replaced our 24 yr old fridgidaire washer and dryer. Don't expect the new ones to last that long. Dryer could have kept going but washer tub bearing was shot and $800 to replace back half of tub, couldn't get just the bearing. Next up is washboard and clothes line. Neighbors already give me sideways glances.

I saw somewhere years ago a bicycle hooked up to a washer. It doesn't even seem bad, certainly better then cucking to the government. Get outside, get some exercise. They hate the human powered washer. All these boomer comments "I hope I can enjoy things a little longer before everything gets bad" is raising my temperature too early in the morning.

This video is a perfect example of fear-mongering at its finest. Several of the claims this lady makes are straight-up false. "This mandates equipment to listen to in-car noises and conversations" - no, the bill says nothing of the sort. It also never mentions "kill-switches to automatically turn off your car" as she claims.

For anyone who wants to read the actual bill, you can check it out here:
https://www.congress.gov/117/plaws/publ58/PLAW-117publ58.pdf (search for 24220 to find the specific subsection that deals with this).

One specific item of note: nowhere in this report did she mention all the provisions in the bill about how this can be kicked down the road for *more than 10 years* if manufacturers can make a case why it's too hard to do.

Lotta hot air and scary noises, but nothing really to see here, imho.
The government doesn't overstep it's bounds any more. Not like the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's, 10's.

IF IT SAVES JUST ONE LIFE...

If they can (do something technically), they will.... Regardless of any written law. There are no limits.

This isn't new news, history is replete with the evidence.

It is what it is.

this kill switch thing is just flat wrong. we are basically one step from having an ear tag or bar code as it it. not to spur a thread war but we complain a lot about our government and they are still in office. some have political careers going decade after decade while things still go to shit. its clear the laws of the land do not apply to them, and no check or balance really exists for them. We have seen what happens when one questions election results... so what can we do to remedy the problem? im not being a wise ass im honestly asking. I vote in every election, i follow the laws, pay my taxes, work hard at my job, generally stay out of other folks business, and try to be a nice person. I am the son of a veteran. my dad is the son of a veteran. his dad also. I wore a uniform too. im no hero by any means but i did what i was told best i could. none of these things have been enough. what options do we have to get better people in office? how do we get the next generation to stop drinking the kool aid?

Has long as there is still "hate" in this country, whether religious, ethnic, race, sexual orientation, background, there will always be people, especially politicians who will take advantage of that hate. There are groups that actively promote that hate, but while I do not condone any of it, at least they are vocal about it, so we know who they are.
What scares me are the ones, especially those in power/politicians, who talk the talk, but hide behind their office, always talking down the groups, but are probably the most racist of all.
Like you, I've done the walk, being a good citizen, paying, always working, serving and shedding blood for our country.
Yet, I and my family are of the religion that is currently in the crosshairs of being the most hated, mistreated and despised group of people in the country. In all my 74 years, I feel more ill at ease than ever before, and am always worried about what may happen in the future. For the life of me, I still cannot figure out why that hate is there, but now I have to deal with it daily.
Dammit, all this should have ended decades ago. Yet, here we are in the 21st century, and all the hate is still with us !
Books are being banned, people's own control over their bodies are being taken away, people's religion/race/orientation are still being in the forefront of persecution....kind of reminds you of another time and place, being run by a person named Hitler.
To get people of quality into office, people need to vote with a rational outlook, and not by their emotions, being fed by lies, un-proven facts, and conspiracy theories.
The "old guard" in both parties have to go as their still living in the past, but at the same time, many of the current younger members are so filled with hate and contempt for the other party that nothing gets done that benefits us, the people.
Until persons of decant moral character are in office, this will only continue. Unfortunately, the different parties have control of the voting areas, usually districted by race and ethnic background. That needs to change, no more gerrymandering, no more electoral college....go back to one person=one vote....person who gets the most votes, wins.....
Jumping down from my soapbox now.

They are being to taught to hate the other party and to me, what's worse, taught to hate and have contempt for our country.

Pick up and read a copy of "The Fourth Turning - Published 1997" or "The Fourth Turning is Here - Published 2023".

It isn't pretty. 80 years cycles (consisting of 4 sub cycles - think seasons lasting ~20 years) where the 4th part invariably leads to the threat to society / country that is existential, for all the marbles.... According to Strauss and Howe, we are in the 4th Turning of that 80 year cycle for the USA.

The shorter the transition to the next cycle, the bloodier. Think Reality, Short period of Chaos, New Different Reality.

The researchers have tracked the pattern back well over 500 years in western civilization, and the USA was born out of the first cycle of its existance.

1st - Revolutionary War
2nd - Civil War
3rd - Great Depression / WWII
4th Starts - estimated between 2010-2020 And we will not settle down until the mid 2030's.

The Fourth Turning: An American Prophecy - What the Cycles of History Tell Us About America's Next Rendezvous with Destiny

The Fourth Turning Is Here: What the Seasons of History Tell Us About How and When This Crisis Will End

The books being banned are the ones instructing grade schoolers how to shove stuff up their ass and cut their dick off. It's actually peoples' control over other bodies, unborn ones with no say. The "people" behind this should be hated. The whole government is illegitimate and both parties belong in the woodchipper. No more red team vs blue team false dichotomy, no more opinion box, not "the other party", both.

You may be falling for the un-proven facts and conspiracies you speak of. The "book banning" headline I think most are referring to is in Florida. The books aren't being banned. You can still buy them if you want. They are explicate books with graphic sex acts in them an they are being removed from public school libraries. many were placed in young grade school libraries. Ensuring kids only access age appropriate material is being responsible not a Nazi.

Want to talk about an act of Hitler look at the censorship of tech media platforms. Only the official government approved view was allowed to be advanced. Goebbels would have been proud.
