No, but current governments believe that should be the case. I think 2035 is a common date that gets thrown around.
They'll carbon tax you to death to make it happen.
By then though, there will be other fish to fry in the global conspiracies to detract your concerns towards something else.
Meh.

I'm ok with the switch to EV's.

Governments forcing things in citizens is a different story...

But EV's are coming. And they will be here to until we finally destroy this planet...

I am also. I am in the market for a 2nd vehicle. The only reason I am not looking at EV is the range. But, in the not too distant future, they will have the range required to travel in the USA. Until then, I am sticking with ICE.

I mean, not much different than if you blow a motor or your turbo eats a bolt....

I only say that because a few guys here at the plant have teslas, ~5 years old, and they cost ~15 bucks a month to charge... One guy commutes >1 1/2 one way every day... When he drove ice it was 1/2 tank a day....

Are they going to replace every vehicle, did cars replace all horses and wagons in the first couple decades?
Very different. I MIGHT blow the engine on my ICE, but the battery on an EV WILL fail eventually. It's part of my concern right now. What is the resale value on a 5 yr old EV with potentially needing a battery replacement in the very near future?

The range is actually there now. 300+ miles is enough for the vast majority of folks.

The problem is the current charging infrastructure and charge times.

A gas station is easy to find and a 5 minute stop for gas is a lot more convenient than a 30+ minute stop to charge.

Great strides have been made in just the last few years so it will eventually get there, but not quite today.

And not having to stop for gas because you charge overnight is even more convenient. But I know we're not discussing reality here, we're just watching people get triggered because someone else bought an EV.

I think assuming EV's will save the planet is a false assumption. Those things take a lot of natural resources to make. Lithium, cobalt etc. That come from mother earth. The machines used to mine them burn a lot of fossil fuel. Which is still the majority fuel for the electric grid. Then when the battery gets replaced, is it going to be properly recycled?

1st, thanks for announcing your departure? I guess.

B. I must live under a rock, since when did EV's become bad?

III. I am still hoping that Ford releases a hybrid ranger, along the lines of the f150 hybrid... I'll trade whatever I have in for it in a heartbeat.
Id never get caught dead looking like an absolute dweeb sitting at a charger for 45 minutes. I just don't have that time to waste.... Kudos if you do!

They won't save the planet but they are quiet, and can be very quick. A coworker gave me a ride in a Tesla Model 3. Zero to holy shit real quick!

I agree they are way cool. Which is the only reason I might own one someday. Heck, I just bought a Milwaukee push mower that kicks ass. So convenient.

I believe I said that the the range is there now for a lot of folks.

And not stopping to charge is not possible on a long trip, but quick stops at a gas station are.

Regardless of what you read into it, I didn't say they were bad. I said the infrastructure and charging times are not where they need to be yet to supplant the existing gasoline infrastructure. And supplant is the correct word, not replace.

We can't visit my inlaws in an EV because they live in the sticks and there are no chargers between us and them. Sure, I could plug into their outside AC outlet and get a whopping 3-6 miles of range per hour of charging. Or I could pay to have them install a charger at their house.

Or I could just get a PHEV instead and it all becomes a non-issue.

I think people who have an EV get triggered more easily than the vast unwashed who don't.

A friend of mine goes nuts when I call his Tesla the white sedan.

An EV is great for some folks, but not yet for everybody.

Never stopping to put gas in an ICE is not possible. Quick stops at a charger are possible. Depending on your family, you might need to stop at a charger about as frequently and as long as potty breaks. This is such a silly argument. The real question is WTF do we need pages of people complaining about EVs every F'ing time someone mentions they bought one?

Should you be at a stoplight with an R1T beside your Ranger - you will be in short order following "EV stuff" as the R1T will completely and totally smoke your Ranger, let me repeat that - totally smoke your Ranger irrespective of your mods. R1T does 0 to 60 at 3.0 secs. And while doing so it's non polluting.

1st - Thumbs up to 'B.' above.

B. Right there with you. While I like the longer bed on the Supercab, I would trade for a Supercrew with a 5' bed if it were a hybrid. In a heartbeat as well.

III. There really is nothing I have to say for III. but the post would be incomplete without the point being listed. :sunglasses:
