I don't have anything against the current crop of compact pickups but I have a hard time considering them a truck since they are all based off a compact SUV with the back cut off to create a bed. Back in the day when El Caminos and Rancheros were the thing I didn't consider them a truck either and they had full frames.

I was all for one until we had one come in our body shop for some small hit in the rear corner damage. It totaled so fast and I knew the guy waited almost a year for that truck just to lose it in less than 2 months. Made me rethink my Maverick order and change it to the Ranger!

Haven't you seen some of the totaled Rangers posted on this forum? ;)

ETA: But, I guess I'd rather it be totaled than repaired, but it would suck to happen after just 2 months. Insurance probably wouldn't cover the sale price either I bet.

Actually, If I had to replace my Ranger I think that I would seriously consider the Honda Ridgeline Sport model. I test drove one and it was well sorted out. I actually prefer a SCAB configuration, but I would certainly go that route over a Maverick or other unibody.

I want to qualify my statement further. The Ridgeline must be manufactured in Japan.

For the people who are willing to seriously die on the hill of “it’s not a real truck like my single cab f350” It’s all just personal insecurity IMO.

Honestly the ridgeline seems like the perfect vehicle if you are a small family but don’t want to get a huge crew cab style truck that takes a mortgage to pay off, but still need a bed occasionally. I’ve driven one before and I was surprised for how comfortable it was.

I was actually considering a ridgeline till I saw the price and it was about 10k more than the Rangers I was looking at. Roomy, very utilitarian, honda.

Yeah, it is definitely pricey. I think it’s like the “Toyota tax” but for Honda. If it’s as quality as some of the other Hondas I’ve had experiences with I think it would be worth it if you can justify the cost.

the only car this century I've had to retire because of mechanical issues was a honda ?‍♂

reputation is like what they say in commercials: "past performance is no guarantee of future results"

Yeah I agree with your point. It’s hard to have an objective view on a brand as everyone’s personal experience differs and as time progresses. It’s kinda like pizza. Everybody likes pizza, but some people like pineapple, some like pepperoni, some like mushrooms.

The latest gen Ridgeline was in my sights...until I verified that the 3.5 V6 still used a rubber band instead of a chain.

I just need something that can haul about 3k on a trailer or thereabouts. I saw Old Blue and fell in love with the color. Took her home.
