I ended up placing the bottom seal on the truck, not the tailgate. It's a little more protected as it sits lower and won't get snagged by sliding something off the bed. I did raise it more than needed to allow the glue to grab a flat area. The sides are easier to install if you temporarily remove the tailgate cable (one side only....:eek!). and I generally kept the seal even with the tailgate light.

I followed DHares lead and pinched the material to make the corner rather than cut v-notches. The pinch seems to help hold the seal closer to the truck and I think it is ultimately better than v notches:

Has anyone tried the one they used for door gaps? I seen a add on my Instagram and was intrigued. Because dust get in through the gaps and a car wash isn't enough to get it clean.

After having the Extang seal on for a while are you happy with it?

It mostly works. Still have some leakage tho. The leaks appear to be at the top where it meets the tonneau cover so I may try again and hopefully get it a bit better. I'm not confident it'll ever be totally 'rain proof' though.

I’m mostly trying to keep dust and dirt out.

The tailgate seal keeps the dirt/dust out. Without it, the lower pressure in the bed caused by the cover, acts like a suction and road grime will be sucked into the bed around the tailgate. The water leakage you see is from the top and the tailgate seal will not stop that. Most tops are not "waterproof".

Has anyone found a way to seal the area around the hinges at the bottom corners? I still see light thru that area and dont see a way to seal it.

I used a double seal on the tailgate, It is completely waterproof. Like most vehicles, the rear gets dirty fast and all that can get inside the bed. Since we carry musical instruments, I need a dry bed.

Looks like you still have the gap by the hinge. Do you not see light coming thru at that spot with the tailgate closed?

So do you need both inner and outer? Why not just the inner?

For the bed to tailgate floor crack I had something like this on my F150. It worked very well for bulk mulch and such. I plan to install one on the coming truck.

I looked at that and thought it was to narrow. Put this on today. More photos in my garage

That is the idea. I am not 100% sure of what product I actually used. The F150 is already gone. IIRC when I installed it I had little more than the sticky tapes overlapping on each side. Lets say 1". With the 4-1/2" product that would leave about 2" for the crack, which seems like a big enough separation.

How wide is that crack on the Ranger?

I have a seal kit I received with my cover but still studying the best way to install, been studying for 3 weeks. I think the seal should be attached to the tailgate for the vertical and the bed for the horizontal, any thoughts? If you attach the vertical to the bed the cable rubs it.

My measured about 5 inches which is why I went with the wider strip
