Wow I didn't think they were going to roll them out this fast. With production starting July 10 the '23 Fords won't be out until late summer.
Looks like they are here. My son was working with an electric contractor last fall retooling the plant. They had a completion deadline of December 27 so they could start runs on the new models.

This article is nothing more than smoke and mirrors for the customer.

What do you think is one factor (among many) that vehicle pricing has rose so steeply in all these years?

If you think them not factoring warranty profit loss is not baked into the price tag I have a bridge to sell you.

I have a couple of bridges to sell you if you think if that they can reduce warranty claims by X% is going to lower future pricing by X%.

But, but isn't that what Farley is/was supposed to do?

I haven't given GM a good look for over 30 years since I bought my one and only truck from them. Well my Vette too. But I will say that new Colorado ZR2 looks really nice and I "might" consider giving it a look over if I saw one on a dealers floor. Sorry @Friday yet? I know your heads about to explode with that comment. Would it be ok if it was a blue one??
The new trail boss looks great and comes w a 2 inch lift. Low $40k too.

It's not really smoke n mirror its a reality that Ford is in trouble with warranty claims and needs to do something asap! No one said that if warranty claims go down so will the prices. Prices rarely come down but also the market will dictate on how high they can go too. You can't just keep raising them while the others are stable or you'll never sell units. Who's going to buy a Ranger if the rest are $5K lower?

Ford is eating most of this and that's why they've been in trouble for the past few years and their stock price reflects it down 35% over the past year. Fixing this mess will give them the opportunity to use the capital for future investment into EV's and vehicle development. This is where being cheap comes back to bite you in the ass. It might not be all the reason but I'm sure a good part of it was using cheaper vendors.

I saw the Trail Boss and that looks really nice too. Comes off road ready and at a really great price. This is where Ford has to be careful because they can't keep raising the Tremor prices when others are more reasonable.

I see it where I work in the Medical device industry. The scrap rates are off the charts. They are making an effort to drive it down but bog the system down even more with arcane rules and red tape. Just drives the cost up to keep profit margins where they want them. I tell senior staff when asked what do we do to correct this? First and most important, understand the heartbeat of the floor and the people doing the jobs. If you listen and then correct what they're telling you if valid then fix it! If you do that enough the problems solve themselves. You can't run an operation from a computer screen. If the bean counters are happy, everyone is and revenue takes care of itself.

Well to a point! Hire people and pay them a good wage so they want to do a job with excellence and value their contributions! And lastly, where warranted automate the process so yields are higher and predictable. There is no such thing as 100% defect free. The mathematical statistics say a small number will get through unless you increase inspection levels and additional cost to do so!

It's almost like the article they put out last year saying they're going to start cracking down on dealers who are making up their vehicles. Sounds great if they actually did do this but it's still happening today.
It's lip service. Farley has had warranty claims in his sights for over 2 years.

This.
Maybe 2 years ago it was lip service but now it's bitten them in the ass for not doing anything back then. When you're losing billions (20 billion to be exact) you can't keep flapping your mouth and doing nothing or you'll be bankrupt. Now add Covid and all the constraints and they'd better do something very fast.

I highly doubt anything will come of this. And if it does, it won't be quick.

Warranty issues in today's vehicles started half a decade ago.

Also, what's the easiest way to reduce warranty claims? Deny, deny, deny.

Second easiest would be to transition to a throw away product, one people don't expect to last, like electric vehicles appear to be.

Having worked as a tier 1 supplier to both Ford and GM, the warranty performance is the opposite of what I'd expect. Ford was pretty strict with us as a supplier. GM is a lot more laid back and willing to work with us. But maybe that makes for a better supplier/OEM relationship and seems more willing to offer support for our issues. But that's just the perspective from one supplier.

I will say I think GM has done a better job at attracting and retaining talent in the past few years. The salaries here in Detroit are decent and the bonus payouts have been beyond generous lately if my neighbors new boat is any indication..

24 for me… in the mean time…… I read

“General Motors says it will spend more than $900 million to update four factories, with the bulk going to an engine plant in Flint, Michigan, to build the next-generation V8 for big pickup trucks and SUVs”.

68 mil in Rochester NY alone

I'm sure GM could be more laid back when they've gotten use to the tax payer keeping their doors open.

It's like everyone is pointing fingers at the next guy (supplier) and no one wants to take responsibility. It's a decent size list too and adds up to quite a bit of money, almost 20 Billion. ?
I can remember back in the day when Ford commercials ended with "quality is job one"

Every company everywhere will say this.

Mission statements have probably been bologna since long before we were born. At the end of the day money rules it all.
