"Engine block breaches"? Is that marketing speak for "threw a rod"?

I think that person used to work at SpaceX. Remember, “rapid unscheduled disassembly”?

Yes, had the same recall on our 2022 Escape PHEV with the 2.5L engine . The recall fix was to change the engine management software to limit the carnage IF it detected a possible crankshaft/connecting rod failure. It uses input from knock sensors and other parameters to shut engine down before ventilation. With the Escape they detected that there were some crankshaft’s that were machined improperly causing failures. Ford then gave a 10 year 100000 mile extended engine warranty for this type of failure.

OK, but it shut the engine down while you were driving? Isn't that dangerous? And you still have a broken engine that needs a rebuild or replacement, right? Doesn't that just save the block? I guess it keeps 6.2 quarts of oil off the road which could cause more problems.

It derates the engine to limit damage and allow for it to get off the road. The extended warranty provides a new long block. We did not have an engine failure just the software update. And for what it’s worth a rod out the side of the block also shuts the engine down while you are driving?

Farley needs to be fired. Ford's quality has gone to hell since he's been CEO.
The old saying, "If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to do it over?" applies here.
