That looks pretty bad ass and it would be cool to see it here. But with the Raptor and F150 it would cut into their sales and we all know Ford will never let that happen. It would be a fun ambulance ride though. lol 🚑

I could see them making a case for the ambulance, as a specialty product for SAR teams, but I have no idea what kind of market size they'd need, what the actual market size is, nor what currently serves that market.

Sadly, otherwise I agree that the RSD will never be seen in N. Am.

That would be awesome, so we will never see that in the US with the diesel power.
We’ll never see it with gas, HPEV, or EV.

I like @LaBalbe ’s point about the ambulance. I’ve been in an off-road forestry ambulance in BC. It was a converted SUV and it was as rugged as anything but too big to get into tighter areas. Units like those are usually specially built by third parties and having a worthy platform to start from would make them easier and a bit cheaper to produce.

The Ranger SuperDuty would be a great starting point for something like that. It would easily meet existing needs and could get to the places that larger trucks/SUVs simply couldn’t.

Brilliant!

Plus, it probably wouldn't be an issue for them to have it in diesel, since they'd already be filling up some of their larger vehicles with the same. For individual owners, a diesel engine in N. Am. is an added headache, but for a fleet, not so much.

I would take one in a second. Perfect go between for 1/2 ton capability and mid size dimensions. I would like a 1/2 ton again for the twice a year I would use it, but the size and cost is crazy to me if buying new. Give me this with a manual and I would be happy.

“1/2 ton”? You mean “full size”, right?

I remember when that term was used more often than “pickup”.

Here, use my 1/2 ton.

Yep, time to get a new 1/2 ton.

Have you seen the new Ford 1/2 ton?

Yes my tonnage comment was not based on the load capacity of the truck but the F150 (half ton). Even though load capacity and that rating have long been wrong. The ranger is technically a 3/4 ton based on capacity.

To me a 1/2 ton is an F150. 3/4 and up are what I consider full size even though for 30 years they were the same size body… at least you got me.

That reminds me of the F250 light duty Lariat supercab that I bought new in 1998. Had 4,000 pound capacity with upgraded brakes, axles, and tires. Was my favorite new Ford and rode really nice. Bullet proof 5.0 6 speed auto drivetrain with shift on the fly 4wd. These are the only pics I could find. First 2 putting up a shelter for my RV and moving in 20 tons of gravel to level the base. Next just a camping picture to go canoeing in the finger lake area canals. Amazing that it was almost the same size as my Ranger but a much more comfortable, quiet, and better finished interior. I would buy another in a second with the same drivetrain. This 4 cylinder 10 speed is crap compared to that. Was $40k back then and worth every penny of it. Back when quality was job 1 at Ford.

I figured I that’s where you were going, since I've been in the habit of calling “regular“ pickups (F150s, Fargos, Sierras, etc.) 1/2 tons myself. Just wanted to be sure.

I was certainly around for the 1/4 ton days - boy was I surprised with the payload of the Rangers when I started paying attention to the speca. Hard to believe the 5g is about the same size and payload of a ten or fifteen year old F150.

I love those old Fords and yours looks similar to my '09 F150. It ran great and never gave me an ounce of trouble.
