Has anyone here needed to use the Protect extended warranty on their Ranger? If so, how did it go?

I’m researching the different Protect plans and wondering if I really need one. My 3/36 will be up in July so I need to decide. The truck has been trouble free so far and I don’t see a lot of problems with the Ranger popping up on the boards, but you never know. I’m leaning toward getting one unless people have had bad experiences with it.

Thanks for any input.

I have the Ford ESP on my Ranger. The only time I've had to use it so far was for some SYNC issues. Because it's a Ford warranty plan, it's registered with Ford. Took it in, the service was done, and just had to pay my deductible.

Yes, I had to use mine and it saved me quite a bit of money. I had a row of problems undoubtedly linked to an unfortunate incident in the swamp, but all work was handled no questions asked as long as I could provide service records. I do my own maintenance, too, so it all counted as long as I had receipts. It works like insurance, so I paid a $100 deductible with each repair.

Your experience will likely depend on the specific problem and the service department you deal with. Mine was the biggest Ford dealer in Florida so I don't think they cared to spend any time on root cause analysis. All they cared about was identifying the failure and finding out how it was gonna be paid for.

Fundamentally, I don't believe any of the issues I had were related to vehicle design...except the fan clutch wire. That one I'll blame on Ford. But again, it was handled with no questions asked and I'm pretty happy at almost 90k miles.

I used mine 3 months after the 3/36 ended for the HVAC clicking. No questions asked, a loaner was provided, and paid my deductible. Make sure you add light fixtures as it will include headlight and tail light assemblies

I have ESP and an early 2020 build. The HVAC actuator issue seems like it's happening. I get a barely audible ticking behind the dash and delayed heating. I called (2) dealers and both said I would be charged for the diagnostics, then if it's approved get my money returned. Then pay the deductible for the repair. I told one of them I'll wait a little longer to make sure 'Its broke' before I put out my money.

I've used Ford ESP, it's worth the peace of mind to have the coverage. Get a quote from Ziegler Auto Group before making the purchase, they have always been the lowest cost and great customer service. I've purchased Ford and Lincoln ESP coverage over the years.

I'd check the paperwork on that one. I have not once paid for diagnostics while using my ESP

I used mine for the first time at 37K - center console went dark nothing would play - ASS went away as well. Thought it was the battery (again) - Ford tested it - said it was good. Turns out they had to replace some modules - repairs would have cost over $600.00, but with my Ford ESP, just paid $100 deductible. No issues or anything - the ESP worked like a charm. Everything works fine now, except the ASS went away - not sad about that - never liked it anyway.

Honestly the 2 biggest I see is the 10 speed and the blend door(older models) which requires whole dash out. For under 1000$ I think its cheap insurance vs those 2 failures. Order via Granger Dealership. 50$ over dealer cost.

Would you please post a photo of the page that shows no diagnostics charges, or maybe e-mail me its location. I'm going to need proof to the dealer.

I'll have to dig through my old receipts, but the best thing to do is find your contract that details exactly how the ESP works and bring that to the table. If they refuse to work with you then you may need to find another service center.

I just used mine, and it was a great experience, all things considered.

I bought the Ford EXP on the last day of my truck's warranty. A couple of weeks ago, my truck was taken out by the fan clutch position sensor issue that effects some of these trucks on occasion. For $100 deductible, I got the truck fixed (roughly $500), and a rental car through Enterprise (I think I had it for 4 or 5 days).
