Stopped at my local ford dealer to check on the cost of the download for the power tune. Service quoted me a price of $800. for the download only, don't think this dealership wants my business. Anyone out there know what the cost should be.

If you already have the tune and Procal I've seen installation prices for around $180.00. $800.00 is just pure robbery!

That's what I thought, going to check with other dealers

If you already have the Tuner you can download the tune into it yourself (part of the tuner cost), then take it to the Dealer to "Load" the tune into your ECU to maintain your warranty. Loading the Tune only takes a few minutes so $800 is crazy, he thought you meant price for tuner & tune install.

If I had to do it over again, I would buy the Kit (Calibrator, Filter and 6 digit code) - the code will allow you to download the tune from Ford Performance directly to the Calibrator. You will need a Windows laptop and do check to make sure the Calibrator firmware is up to date. The Calibrator will most likely 'phone home' automatically looking for firmware updates once its connected to the internet. Hook up at least a 2 amp battery charger as the process may take awhile.

They should not charge any more than a hours labor. And even that is generous.

Ford Speed Shop/Tuner charged me $80 plus lunch...I'm happy.

Im Taking my chances with a SCT BDX and custom tunes. I just can’t see the ford unit making any type of measurable difference and my tires are too big for it to calibrate the speedo.

My "Seat of the Pants" meter told me it made a considerable difference (didn't change tire size). YMMV

The 91 FPP Tune is about equal in power and feel to Unleashed 87 Performance Tune, via SCT/BDX. I have both and have run each a few thousand miles.
