Note: I bought mine at the time I bought the Ranger in 2019 and had the dealer install as part of delivery prep. I also got the extended warranty.

r)
A friend of mine was buying a Ranger Raptor and wanted the tuner installed as part of delivery prep. They said to wait and bring it back when it had 1000 miles on it. Different motor, who knows? Maybe they wanted easier break in miles?

I am very close to paying off my truck, so now i can start looking into this. Do i need to revert any forscan changes before the tune? I only did the running lights, battery % charge, and auto start/stop. I havent touched anything else. many threads and snooping around to do!

I did Bambi Mode and a few other changes prior to the tune and had no issues after. I used Forscan and not the tuner to make my tire size changes a month prior to the tune. It shouldn't be an issue.

It is a Ford certified tune and your "regular" but it comes with it's own 3 yr /36K miles warrant BUT only if it is installed by a Ford dealer or ASE-certified tech.

I had mine installed when I bought the truck so was covered.

Noticeable power increase and a big improvement in shifting. I almost never use Sport Mode any more. There are others that give you more power but it did what I want. This article gives a good sales pitch for staying with the Ford tune. https://performanceparts.ford.com/procal/

Agree with this, except for me it made Sport mode even more fun. I get mocked by my Fiancé because I act like it’s a sports car now.

You are correct, Sport Mode is more fun now. I should have said that I don't NEED Sport Mode to actually have a responsive transmission.

I got my ranger back in June, it is a used 2022 with the 2.3 and FX4 supercab.
I originally "upgraded" to the K&N drop in filter, and was going to eventually get the tune.
I have the Ford Gold Warranty, so haven't found a ton of information on the tune + Gold
I called the local dealership, and they said they will only do the install if I bought the tuner from them, and with the cost of the tuner through a dealer, I put the project on the back burner.

Well this week I was able to get an open item, never used tuner with the code still in the box for $250, so now I am back into seeing what I should do.

I understand this is a pretty safe tune, but is it a bad idea to just install it myself? The moment I get it, I would like to at least change the tire size in the system. Should I really find a dealer / SAE tech that is willing to write up that they did it, I was looking at previous threads here, and lots people said they charged more then what I just paid for the tuner to have this done.

I didnt get the tuner through Ford Directly, so is the warranty option already out the window?

Also I never found a good answer, lets say the last owner did the flash but didnt keep the tuner with the truck, how would I know if the tune is there or not already?

Thank you
if you decide to do yourself, super easy, put you battery on a charger just to be on the safe side

At this moment, I have been holding off. With the local store not willing to do it, and never getting a clear answer with my truck being out of factory warranty but still in ford gold, it was getting me worried.
I am 50% sure I will be looking at a transmission replacement in the next year, so I wanted to keep the warranty as safe as possible for now.

...also thankful for the moment of the non forced 91 octane.

It has hard shifts on cold starts, (this does lessen when I remote start for a couple minutes) 2nd to 3rd gear seems to seek or stall for awhile, and recently I was in first in a parking lot and I stopped suddenly, and tried to go to reverse, and it had an error message about the transmission.
I assume it will eventually need the CDF drum or whatever.
But I have that gold plan, so I am just letting it role
