Hi all. Long time, first time.

I bought my 2022 XLT last October and have been visiting the forum since shortly thereafter.

After reading lots of posts about performance tunes and fixes for the dreaded shudder at takeoff, I pulled the trigger on the Ford Performance tune and a Tom Woods custom driveshaft.

I couldn't be happier with both choices. I'll repeat what others have said... this is how the truck should have come from the factory.

The performance tune has greatly improved the throttle response and shift points, making it much more fun to drive. It's not perfect. I do still get the low rpm "lug" on some inclines, but much less so than before the tune. And even with the tune there's still that hint of turbo lag. But overall I'm very happy I did it.

I'm even happier with the driveshaft from Tom Woods. It has completely changed the truck. All the shudder/vibration I felt when starting from a stop is completely gone. The truck drives so much smoother and is so much more enjoyable to drive. If I could only pick either the performance tune or the new driveshaft, I would pick the TW driveshaft without hesitation. If you're like me, going through the forum looking for ways to make your truck better, or even thinking of trading in because you don't want to live with that two-piece shudder, I highly recommend pulling the trigger on the TW driveshaft. You will not regret it. And Shawn from TW is super helpful and took the time to answer all of my questions. Again, can't recommend them enough.

So that's it. If you're out there on the fence about either of these upgrades, hopefully this helps.

Take care,

Chris

Glad the Tom Woods worked for you.
Will file that away in case the "shudder/vibration" ever affects my truck.

Excellent report - thanks. I really hate the way my truck (doesnt) shift. Where did you get the factory tune from? And did you install it yourself?

Maybe you can answer one for me then? The one piece shaft has an effect on the drive speed of the shaft vs a two piece "critical speed" or something I don't remember what the term was but can potentially be limiting in terms of your upper end speed limit so you don't shred your drivetrain.

If you make the switch what does that do to your max speed? I think the ECM already has us limited to about 110mph

Or am I misunderstanding the differences between two piece and one when reading about this

There’s a calculator on the TW site where you can plug in your numbers and it will tell you what the official max speed will be with the one piece driveshaft.

Unofficially, I regularly drive 75+ (emphasis on the plus) and it feels smooth as butter. Would I drive it 100+ for long stretches? No. But I wouldn’t do that anyway, so I’m not missing out. Could it blow up without warning? Possibly. But after my conversations with Shawn I’m confident it will hold up to my driving habits.

I'll have to give em a ring. I'm more of an 85'ish' person myself, the 90s are usually for passing and triple digits would be purely emergency driving but I'd like to know I could without grenading the shaft

Ever been around Illinois highways?
Even if I do 80, I still get quite a few people rushing past me.

****'s insane lol.

I bought the tune and ran it a couple of months. Back to stock for now and oddly the trans seems to shift a little better than it did before. I know it has to be my imagination.

Thanks for sharing info on the driveshaft. This is on my shortlist now - if I keep my truck -. My truck has the mild vibration that annoys me. Nobody else seems to notice. I’m considering a used 2 door Rubicon (since a 10r80less Bronco Sasquatch is out of reach) or a 12-14 FJ Cruiser.

Tremorky, You can shim the support down a 1/4 inch. That made an a good improvement in mine but didn’t completely so I bit the bullet and got one and couldn’t be happier..

I'm on an SCT BCT Tuner, w/a couple of extra tunes. Currently running a near 50/50 mix of 93 and E85 on stock injectors and pump, stock drives haft. No speed limiter, and have well over 130mph.

Don't believe half of what you read about these trucks.
