I‘ve had LineX on older trucks, but I’m leaning toward the drop-in for this Ranger. The local dealers charge a lot for installation. Is there something other than gravity holding it down? I understand the tailgate portion requires some screws. How hard can it be? Has anyone done this?

I haven't seen how ford engineers their specific liner, but I put in a rugged liner branded one a few weeks ago in the dealership parking lot in about 5 minutes with just a standard set of torx wrenches. I think they quoted $150 for installation, which to me is insane, but they have to make a living with the hours they work every day so I understand flat rates. With that liner all it took was dropping it in the bed, manuevering it around to get it seated right, and screwing in two torx bolts (around t20-25 maybe can't remember right off hand) that were included with the liner. The tailgate is just as easy, and the bolts for that are already in place in the tailgate (around t15 or so). Just remove them, align it and reassemble. No work whatsoever. I picked it up from the dealership so that I could use the fordpass points for the purchase. With the local shop I use had I not used points, if you buy it from them they will put it in for free, as with most of the accessories they sell, they are a very nice shop to work with.

Thanks for that, Dylan. I didn’t know that the dealer would source aftermarket parts like that, and I also have the 40-some thousand points from my truck purchase. What do you think of the Rugged Liner? They are very inexpensive from online sources. I have a set of torx bits...

Mine was already pre-installed by the dealer when I looked at the truck. But I've had many F 150's that I traded in every 3 years and I would pull the liners out in like 5 minutes and maybe 10 to re-install them. It's easier with 2 people so each can take a side and work it under the bed rails and it basically snaps into place. Start from the back of the cab and work you way forward and it'll be a piece of cake.

For the price I was perfectly happy with it. Of course its not as refined as most would probably be. It is just two plastic pieces, no plugs for tie down holes or any of the refinements, but all I needed it to do was cover the bed and try to prevent some impact/scuff damage. I was originally just going to let it go, but after using the bed bare several times, I noticed that the paint is EXTREMELY easy to scuff, and in some cases, completely scratch through. That being said you may want to check with a few dealers and see what they can do, honestly I didn't know they could either, I asked for a bedliner and just assumed it was a ford one, but what I got I found to be adequate . I am usually a bare bones truck buyer, my last truck was a pretty well base stock 2009 ford ranger and it served me well. This time I let my wife talk me into the XLT with 302A tech package, 18" chrome wheels, diff locker, etc. I'm cheap so getting the liner for essentially "free" was a big deal for me. To make my long story short, if you want refinement, you may have to pay a little more for that, but if you just need coverage as I do for hauling logs or camping equipment, its perfect and economical.

Easy to do - at least to take out. I removed mine.
Here is a video that helped in getting it out, should be even better for putting it in!

Good luck - PS I have one for sale if you want to come to NC! ;-)
