I think that "shop fees" are actually the credit card fees in disguise - speculation on my part. I've always seen them regardless of the service, whether just an oil change, or something more extensive.

We used to charge shop fees at my old shop. Rags, hand cleaner, lubricants (Liquid Wrench, WD-40, etc.), all cost money and need to be replenished. There may be costs associated with disposal of used oil and the like. I think we charged $10 to cover all that, but that was 2021 and earlier before I sold the business and retired.

Same at our shop. It was a percentage of labor on the repair order with a max amount .

So let me get this strait. You went through a company that is not backed by Ford for the Extended warranty and you want us to be mad? That's is your problem dude. Regardless of vehicle manufacturer, it is best to get the extended warranty that the manufacturer backs. For example Ford has the ESP Extended Warranty. For Nissan it's Security Plus.
Yeah, now I feel dumb. I paid like $3800 for mine (just picked up the truck in January. 2020 Ranger with 26k miles) through Centurion. Makes me wonder if I should just cancel it and get whatever refund is coming to me. The stealership told me that they offer a 'lifetime powertrain warranty' but it didn't cover turbos, and I was worried about it, so I got the one that covered turbos. I wonder if I can get a ESP warranty still?

Unfortunately once the vehicle has passed 3 years 36000 miles from original purchase date The vehicle is no longer eligible for a Ford backed extended warranty. Well at least the ESP. You can attempt to see if you could qualify but no promises

I bought an ESP for my pre-owned 2020 Ranger (in-service date 12/10/2020) on 12/18/2024, so just over 48 months old, from Granger. It will cover me to 74K miles and change or 5 years. The cost was $2,260.

I am over the 3 year 36k and I called ford and could get coverage. the person on the phone said it was the 5 year/60k that is the cutoff. Price goes up with more mileage and time though.

Then perhaps the Owners Manual is incorrect as that is where I got the information

No worries - well one of us is wrong. I guess I’ll find out which one when I go to buy it or attempt to haha!

speaking of owners manuals being incorrect. I was rotating the tires on my father’s car (late 2010’s edge) probably 5 years ago and ford must have confused the wheel torque rating as it was saying 200 something ft lbs. I thought It might have just a miss print of metric vs imperial but 100 ftlbs is 135nm - so I have no idea what happened there. I could see maybe that high on an f350+ but no way on an edge.

Not all extended warranties are created equal. I forgot who we had for our 2016 Honda Pilot's extended but it was purchased at the dealer (not Honda's though). They covered our control arm bushings! I was NOT expecting that but the advisor said you just have to word it right. Considering that vehicle also got injectors and a fuel pump, we definitely made out on our plan.

With the Ranger we just have Ford's extended so I hope it works out well. I have an AC stepper motor that is clicking in cold weather when cycling to the defrost. I have been holding out because I am worried about getting the truck back with rattles. Oddly only in auto, won't really do it when manually selecting the modes. Been living with it for two winters now since the first time I took it in they "couldn't" duplicate it when under factory warranty.

Well given that you got out of ~$1000 worth of repairs for ~$200, I don't think you fared too badly, given that extended warranties are just glorified insurance policies. Has anyone ever known of an insurance company in your country or mine to pay out 100% on anything, once the car is more than 12 months old.

Definitely need to be cautious on 3rd party ESP. Car Shield was in hot water for denying coverages or limiting coverage. Then you have to find someone to accept the warranty.
When I bought my 21, the dealer sold me one from Easy Care, 6yr/100K for $2400 (IIRC). Of course they did, they were part owner in that company. I eventually canceled it and got a Ford ESP thru Granger with higher milage and better coverage for less money ($1635). When the '21 had just under 60K, I traded for a '24. Granger credited $945 of that warranty and applied it to a new 8yr/125K Premium care on the '24. Only had to pony up another $1351.

The title of your thread should have been.......
Extended AFTERMARKET Warranty, Buyer Beware.....
I hear you. I had a $1200 repair. My passenger side airbag failed in two years at 61K miles. Factory warranty ran out at 5 years or 60K miles. So I was 1000 miles past the factory warranty. I THOUGHT that the Ford dealer I bought my truck from sold me a genuine Ford warranty, but he sold me an aftermarket warranty that didn't cover the supplemental restraint systems. Be careful when you buy a truck and make sure you're getting a FORD warranty. Dealer did sell me the genuine Ford maintenance plan, along with an aftermarket warranty.

Wow only 1000 miles over and Ford wouldn't replace it? Over here you could have complained to Consumer Affairs which can enforce out of warranty repairs if the fault is one which "a reasonable person would not expect to have to replace or repair that soon"

Popularly referred to over here as the "pub test" ie if you had a bunch of people in a public house (bar) and they were all asked the same question what the average response would be.
