Greetings,
I think everyone has seen the ads about high repair costs and the extended warranty covering it. Not quite true in my case.

Quickly...2020 Escape developed a AWD Fault. Took it to Ford dealer. Was diagnosed as Transmission Control Module. Not covered under Powertrain Warranty. Extended warranty with Allstate covered it.

Dealer submitted to Allstate and Allstate authorized $493.33 (which they say is MSRP) and $400 labor (which is probably book time and who knows at what rate). Problem is dealer charged $521.70 for part and $475 for labor. Stuck. And by the way, tack on $40 for shop supplies (which is necessary?? for the work and everyone gets charged)...not covered. Sales tax of $75.23 not covered. Allstate... despite my well reasoned argument said no (through a chat box...forget about talking with someone which is probably not the thing to do over a contentious issue).

So I was out almost $220 for a "covered repair" after deductible.

Extended warranty. Be prepared to pay more than what you probably think you will.

Let me guess. The Powertrain warranty covers the basic engine, transmission, and rear diff but not the computer modules that control them.

I believe the engine ECU may be covered under the fed emissions warranty 8/80k

The Ford warranty would have covered it all using Ford parts minus the deductible you choose. I always buy the zero deductible warranty and no problems. They just hand you the keys when fixed. Hit and miss with aftermarket warranty and aftermarket part pricing. Saving money upfront can cost you later.

They sell extended warranties so hard because on average, they make money on them. Therefore on average, you will lose money on it. I always forego options like that.

I always buy new vehicles and never got the warranty. The Ranger was the first ever North American vehicle (always buy Japanese) so bought the extended warranty and thank god we did. Paid $2400 for the warranty and had a $8000+ repair when the transmission got overhauled as they found some extra issues such as a hairline crack in the pan, scorched clutch rings, seized bolts, torn heatshield, etc...I won't make the mistake of buying a 1st Gen vehicle again.

So let me get this strait. You went through a company that is not backed by Ford for the Extended warranty and you want us to be mad? That's is your problem dude. Regardless of vehicle manufacturer, it is best to get the extended warranty that the manufacturer backs. For example Ford has the ESP Extended Warranty. For Nissan it's Security Plus.

FWIW the warranty was purchased from the dealer at the time of vehicle purchase. Mad? I don't want anyone to be mad. Just be mindful of what is covered and what is not...like shop supplies and sales tax, etc. It is my problem...just don't want someone to assume like I did.

The title of your thread should have been.......
Extended AFTERMARKET Warranty, Buyer Beware.....
Or “Allstate extended warranty… buyer beware.”
