Try lubricating the thread and you may have to hold back the rubber part to get it to expand if it’s like my MX4.

Have you noticed any bending of the metal flange on the inside of the bed rail top? I'm concerned my clamps are starting to bend it slightly, but they also don't feel overtightened...

I am still happy with mine. As others have noted it is not 100% water proof, but it is good enough. I like that it is easy to remove by myself when I need to. It is holding up well. It has been on since April of 19.

I'm happy with mine. It is mostly waterproof (assuming you seal up the tailgate), and it is really easy to take completely off if needed. I've had mine on Since April of 2019 as well.

Pretty much the same as above, installed in Feb. 2019, still going strong. Get occasional drips of water inside, the last few days there has been 4 or 5 inches of snow melting on it so Ive seen a bit of water inside, but for the most part its pretty dry.
