Garbage.

The water invades the substrate of the sensor and causes permanent damage.

Plus, for a $20 sensor, and the minor pain in the ass to replace it, no one wants to let one dry out and give it another go-round.

I got 83k miles out of the first one so I’d say it lived a fair life. It now lives in a trash bag.

I kept my old one and when I make the next go round I'll give it a try. It's a 10 minute exchange now, but I just got my truck behaving normally after several years of serious transmission pain, and don't wish to tinker with success.

My other question (which may have been answered elsewhere) is can these dpfe sensor issues cause damage to the transmission?

Damage? Probably not immediate damage, but anything that causes it to shift in a manner that it isn't supposed to will possibly cause accelerated wear.

I'm new to this site, so pardon my stupidity, but WHERE on the engine is this sensor? I have a new one ordered but so far, I am not sure I can even SEE this thing....

I replaced mine awhile back for the bucking. Still have the OE in my glove box because it tested fine using the vacuum, volt meter test. I still had the bucking after switching to the new one and realized I'm having the transmission issue. Of course the dealer said they couldn't find anything wrong with the trans.
If the replacement sensor ever goes bad I'll try swapping in the OE.

I installed my new sensor and the truck runs 100 times better!! Probably just like new!! A huge thank you to all that have done the leg work to make it so easy to do, on my end! I was going to proceed with the Massachusetts Lemon Law, thinking I needed a new transmission. Instead, it cost me a few bucks and not even an hour's work. Let me tell you, I needed this win in my life right now. Thank you again!!

You could use worm style and I've read where several others had. I just decided to go back with what Ford originally had on the top side. I doubt you would want to put the ear crimp clamps on the both sides of any hose you may have to remove in the future.
I made the executive decision that Ford chose crimps because they're cheaper, and went with worms.

I'm keen to get mine switched out (I still haven't! HAHAHAHA). I decided to wait until the weather cools around here. Damn this Florida air is like walking through the swamp suspended in the sky!

I do all my serious outdoor work in the fall and winter. 98% humidity with 90F + temps is a recipe for disaster.

Just had my central AC fail. Miserable for the 8 hours it took me to diagnose and repair it. 95F with 90+% humidity. It was still 90F at 9PM (and humidity had gone up) when I wrapped up the repair.

While I had it opened up I added an Eltwin Surestart Soft Start module to the failing AC unit and liked the results so much that I purchased a second one for the upstairs heat pump - both are split systems. Dropped the startup load dramatically, 70% lower. My genset can now easily (and safely) operate both units.

I love the south, but summers are tough... and its gotten harder the older I've become.

When we bought the house and moved down here we had to have the whole HVAC system replaced. Luckily the new unit was optioned with a soft start feature.

I've been thinking about adding a whole home dehumidifier to the HVAC system. I just don't wanna crawl up into the billion degree attic to do it!
