So I have a 2020 FX2 4x2 with the beloved 4 banger and I was reading that some Rangers have different modes: sand, rain, Eco, towing, etc. Is it just the 4x4 that all these different modes. What am I missing?

Is it because I only have a 4X2 that I only have Tow mode and can lock the differential? And none of the other options?

The TM button on certain 4wd models activates the different modes

Thanks, so my assumption was correct. The different modes are only for the 4x4. I give up all the groovy modes but get better gas mileage in return. I'll take the gas mileage any day, plus I can tow 7,500 lbs. Win, win

You do have the tow/haul mode. It is the button on the lower left that looks like a trailer. All Rangers have it. It also looks like you are lucky and have a Ranger without ASS. Look

Big Blue, thanks for your input. We knew it has the towing pkg as we need that and it also has the Auto start/stop, I've seen it in action on the Lone Ranger. Is ASS an issue?

Hmm, I wonder how many configurations of that button panel there are. Here’s mine - XLT 300A pkg…no locker, no TM

ASS isn’t a problem but it can be annoying in stop and go traffic or driving around where there are plenty of traffic lights. Driving in Tow mode or S (on shifter) disables it automatically. The button on the console disables it during that key cycle or until you toggle it back on.

Some folks on the forum thought they had the trailer package but were either mistaken or misinformed - now, what used car salesperson would do that? ;) Every Ranger has the Tow mode button because every bumper can accept a tow ball, but it tops out at 3,500 lbs. You can imagine their disappointment. :(

To confirm you have the factory Tow Package, you will have the tubular steel hitch with a 2” receiver that curves around the spare tire and the 7-pin wire harness connector to the left of the license plate.

I know I have to tow pkg, cause the dealership produced to original paperwork, and the back of my truck looks just like the one pictured above

My needs are pretty simple. I wanted a vehicle that could tow more than 6,000 lbs and got better gas mileage than our SUV. I found it in this Ranger. I love the look of this truck, and we both couldn't believe how it rode down the road when test driving it, it doesn't feel like a truck. And a truck that get's 26.1 mpg in my world was unheard of. I just love our "Lone Ranger" and also really appreciate all your input here.

The manual says if you’re towing over 1650lbs(750kg) you will require a brake controller.
I burnt out the rear brake pads towing a 4500lbs(2040kg) travel trailer because I didn’t install one. I thought that the trailer button is all I needed. Nope. Found out the hard way. All that button does is changes when the transmission shifts.
