Dealer says I better order now or else ordering closes. Is this true?

Hey all. I'm trying to purchase (order) a new Ranger XLT 4x4 supercab and visited a dealer over the weekend. As the title states, I was informed I better order quickly as the ability to order a Ranger will soon be closed. Is this accurate?

Also, is $32900 a good price for that truck (only options are keypad and locking diff)? If not, I was thinking about just waiting to order but this dealer has me thinking ordering at a later date wont be an option.

Weird tactic by the dealer, but I wouldn't wait too long to order one either.
Seems to take 5-7+ months from order to delivery with little reason for the wide margin of wait times.

See if you can get your deposit back, if so order one now and if you come across one already in stock just cancel the order.

Thanks for the reply. I havent placed an order yet but this salesman did indicate the deposit was nonrefundable. Does this seem right? Seems to me I should be able to walk away from the deal up until I accept delivery - but hey - I've been wrong before.

Don't know the laws in your state but here they cannot do a non-refundable deposit.

I wouldn't order from a dealer that has a non refundable policy because anything can happen in life and they'll for sure be able to sell it for a huge markup.

I do know that the Bronco (made on the same line at MAP) has suspended all new orders back in March so it's possible the Ranger is going this way too. With parts constraints they most likely know they can only build so many units and the rest would be a 2023 and you'd have to resubmit your order again.

Doesn't seem right in terms of principles, but I'm not up to par with laws and such. The dealer I went with has refundable deposits.

I'd look at other dealers. I'd hate to drop $1k and have it totaled during delivery or something.

It is not against the law to retain the deposit in many states. Otherwise what good is it really?

Some unscrupulous dealers will take a deposit, and never order the vehicle. Then, once the deadline is past, they tell you Ford has stopped allowing order on the vehicle you ordered. So, you'll have to settle for a 2023, not a 2022. As a result, the price is now... (A LOT MORE).

If you really want a 2022 model I would order ASAP. Broncos are also made at MAP and there is a huge push to get as many Broncos built as possible....this will lead to a lower ratio of Rangers being built. Also, MAP this week is scheduling production almost all the way to the end of July. Model switch over will likely be in November. That leaves very little time to schedule more 2022 builds. On that price...sounds fair to me and keep in mind there is not a lot of stock out there but you may want to see what is on the lot too. If you do order.....expect December delivery and if it comes sooner...you will be super happy!

My two cents…..

Several of my friends have ordered trucks lately.

None of them asked for a deposit.

Thanks. Is the $1000 off the only other discount available right now? I didnt even know about that one until I read it here.

2 of my friends ordered vehicles recently through the same dealer. One with awesome credit - no deposit. The other with moderate credit had to put a deposit down.

When I ordered there was a $1K rebate ore ordering. When it was delivered there was another $1K for something else....so I got $2K in rebates. My Dealer (hopefully all) did a search when you take delivery and are doing the paper work....they apply all rebates that apply. You can go to the Ford Web page, Ranger, and see what rebates are available now.

Deposits are very common. Non-refundable.....no. I would not go for a non-refundable deposit. Tell them you are super serious in purchasing/ordering, will pay a deposit but that it needs to be on paper that it is refundable. I paid a deposit on my Tremor and have paid a deposit on my Bronco order.....I did so gladly as I am a committed buyer.
