If the state funded day care and indoctrination system, uh I mean, public school started at 9AM, many people would be late for work.
In my area, the kids are picked up at 6:15 AM.

So by your logic you pick up the kids at 3PM too
Not making any sense to the times as "most" schools have about a 6 hour day in classes

Your neighbours here north of the 49th parallel has been hankering to stop DL savings as well (well maybe not everyone) But much like your politicians, ours keep debating but nothing happens - it seems so simple. Makes you wonder how the heck the world has averted nuclear war which is way more complicated than ending DL savings time. ?
They couldn't figure out what time to drop the big one1

Those that say the kids will be in the dark. Well we don't do daylight savings here and they all seem to manage just fine. Like anything people will adjust over time.

Actually, my kid is 37, so I have no kids in school. What I meant is I live in a rural area. I leave for work at 6:15 and often get stuck behind the bus. I get home at 4:15, and often meet up with the bus. I think school starts around 8AM and ends around 3. Kids here are used to waiting for a bus in the dark, DST or Standard time.

Even if they ever do get rid of time change there with still be four times zones in USA. Eastern, central, mountain and western will stay in place and the coasts would still be four hours different. Only way to get rid of that is to go with the single time zone for all and that won't happen.
At least it's not like in my homeland, eh, with six time zones including Newfoundland with its 30 minute difference!

It was always weird seeing times for TV shows when I lived in Quebec.

Crazy Newfies!

Think those 1/2 hour time zones are weird? Nepal is GMT +5:45, western Australia is +8:45, central is +9:30, and eastern is +10:00.

I don't really care much either way, I have 11 clocks that need to be manually reset, unlike @P. A. Schilke with over 200- I'll never catch up, Phil!
I don't see much energy efficiency gain. Sure we can leave our 9 watt led lights off a little longer, but our 3kw+ central AC will run longer in the warmer evening.

AZ has the right Idea, maybe even back it up to HI time so the cool of the evening comes at 4-5pm. Just trying to be helpful.

When I drove OTR semi, i was delivering to and picking up from clients in the Williston, ND area. Williston is six miles from the Montana Border and Mountain time zone. Being on the extreme western edge of central time, In the dead of winter the sun didn't rise until ~8:30 am CST. DST would be 9:30 am, and set at ~6pm. Big deal. I think during WWII there was Double DST, or 2 hrs ahead, but I think this was done to bring US time closer to the European Theatre time; Pacific Theater time was tomorrow, regardless.

I miss living in Arizona for this reason alone. I hate flipping clocks twice a year.

When I first joined the military, at my first duty assignment, I was late to work when we went forward an hour. I didn't realize this until they started asking who wanted to go to lunch and at what time. I looked at the clock and said, "I could do 11:00". They looked at me and said it's too late. It clicked and I was like, "oh fuck, I'm in trouble". I went to the NCOIC and apologized for being late. He laughed and said he figured at least one person would be late. I then mentioned I had an excuse... He looked at my like, let's hear it. "I grew up in Arizona"! He agreed and all was good.

Come around to Fall... I was an hour early for work. I ended up relieving the night shift early since I was already there. Mind you, we had actual alarm clocks then and you had to manually change it. :)

No, that's exactly right. in our area (one of the largest school bus fleets in the country) the same buses pick up elementary, middle, and high school kids at three different times. The start times for those schools are staggered to accommodate the bus schedules, with middle schools going at the crack of dawn, then high schools, then elementary schools. At the middle school the first period bell is 7:30a and the last bell for elementary school is 4:05p. Add transit time and breakfast, and you're easily looking at buses running 6:15a to 5pm. There are routine fights over the science of high school students' nocturnal nature vs the desire to have sports in the day time.

this whole thread is somewhat hilarious with the level of government bashing. seriously, people, get a clue--there's not some amorphous "evil government" pushing DST or not, there's a bunch of your neighbors willing to die on the hill that you think is stupid. (whether that hill is pro- or anti- DST.)

Yup, this always happens twice a year ...... for many DECADES.
Frustrating, and sometimes entertaining.
But, in the end, a waste of time.
Just ReSet the clocks, folks, and continue on with life.
Because politicians aren't going to mess with this.

Well Jimmy Carter did. Oil embargo he had DST stopped to save energy. Here we are again and why are we not saving energy this time? Doesn’t add up, especially with a whole new generation of woke energy contentiousness puppets!
