I'm taking my new ranger in for a problem with the cruise control. If you press and hold the +set control to increase set speed, the truck just takes off and continues to accelerate even when you have reached desired speed and have let go of the set switch. Scary. The same goes when you hold the -set button. Continues to decelerate and the brakes actually go on to slow you down. Careful with this one and you have to shut off cruise to make it stop. Anyone else with this problem.

Notice that when holding the button in it sets the increase at 5mph increments (see on cruise display).

Yes I understand that. Mine goes full throttle until you shut it off.

Don't hold the button in. Click + 1 time to gain 1 MPH, click - 1 time to decrease 1 MPH

That works but the Ford dealer here said that there is a very serious safety concern with mine. I took him for a ride and showed him. If an inexperienced driver panicked they would rear end someone the way it is working. You should be able to either touch in increments or hold until the wanted speed is reached. It should not go pedal to the metal with no stopping.

Well, an inexperienced driver might not hit the brake if they think they're moving too fast...but that's why inexperienced drivers pay higher insurance rates.

That doesn't make it right. The owners manual says to operate it either way. The cruise control system is faulty. I can see a recall coming out once my dealer finishes reporting the problem.

Do you have adaptive? The manual says holding the button down changes the set speed in large increments. The non-adaptive cruise control accelerates until you release. Two different things. Assuming you have adaptive, it's unlikely that it's accelerating "forever", it's more likely that you managed to just set the new speed to 100MPH or something. Again, tapping the brake is an option, as is paying attention to the set speed in the adaptive cruise display.

I'll have to check it out. Maybe it has been somehow set to 100 mph unknowingly. Once the dealer has checked it out I will post. Thanks for the comments.

When I operate Adaptive Cruise and I want to slow down using the steering wheel buttons, I have to get to the Speed and then hit SET, That stops the vehicle from continuing to speed up. Otherwise, the truck will brake hard and in the reverse, it will surge. The SET button stops all actions and continues the cruise.

Well I learner something today. I was always looking at the center speedometer dial to set the cruise by. That's why it was wrapping up to 100 mph when holding the button in. I never even noticed the little digital indicator by the cruise icon. Works fine once you know how! Geez...LOL
