Cruise Control Automatic Braking

I have all 'adaptive' cruise control features turned off in my 2019 XLT (2WD). As far as I can tell, the only thing it should be doing is keeping speed. No distance management, no automatic braking, nothing.

Despite all this, the truck's favorite thing to do to lose speed is to apply brakes. Going downhill especially, if speed creeps up too high past the set speed, it will apply brakes. Is there any way to disable this and either let it go past the limit or use the engine to slow itself? I usually just pause CC until I'm past the hill, it's not that big of a problem, but it does annoy me. I'd rather let it go or rev up where possible.

Is this just part of having a modern vehicle?

You can't turn the braking off in cruise control, but try using Trailer Tow mode, it might use engine braking more than brakes.

It's probably because the 2.3 EB engine produces very little engine braking, so slowing it down simply be cutting power may not always be fast enough to adjust speed.

When you are in the - IPC (menus) what are you deselecting?

I am questioning - if the brakes are actually being applied or are you feeling engine braking?
Is CC - being triggered (OFF)? when this happens

I never use - Cruise Control, so not up to speed on normal behavior with the Ranger- such as downhill speed control - between the 2 options (real world-ops)
By description- no the braking should not be in play for CC
I think this is a - confusing issue and it really boils down to:
If you only have - CC (optioned) then the brakes will not be automatically applied to maintain set speed.
if you have (CC/ACC) then automatic braking will still apply to maintain set speed, even if you have ACC turned off

Would need (2) real world tests to confirm the (specific) detail on normal ops.
one with CC (Only) and one with (CC/ACC) and note if they operate differently

Ok - so a clarification- automatic braking will not occur- when following a vehicle but will brake to control speed.

I have had people cut me off on the freeway while I am using the adaptive cruise control and had the truck absolutely brake hard...not just gradually slow... until proper following distance was reached again.

My 5G would auto brake. A coworker was being stupid and standing where I was trying to park. I slowly crept toward him until the truck braked hard and stopped.

Yes, I use ACC all the time, at all speeds. The brakes will apply, on downhill stretches, to maintain that speed!
My question, why doesn't it, also, turn the brake lights on? Confirmed that it doesn't, when the wife was following me one day.

Probably because the truck is just maintaining speed and not trying to slow down below its present speed.

They should if the "throttle off" does not slow the truck down enough that the ABS has to kick in... when it does, the brake lights will come on... if no, something in your truck is broken.
