I covered mine with a forged carbon looking vinyl from Amazon. I only used heat to stretch around the vents, I should have used heat on the whole thing as, in certain light I can tell it's a little wrinkled. I don't have pics right this sec but, they're in this section somewhere.

I haven't covered mine but the panel is very easily removed.

Here are the steps I used for a phone holder

Then just pop it off at the passenger side.
Old thread, I know... but this was more of a PITA than I expected and (for me, at least) didn't just pop off easily. I used a trim tool - and the bottom clips were easy enough. But I really had to yank pretty dang hard on the whole assembly to get the top clips to disengage. Broke at least 1 of the little white plastic clip things, but there are plenty of them... I just installed the Course Motorsports phone mount and installed the vent assembly back.

I scuffed then painted mine with ultra flat clear coat. The shine was terrible. Problem fixed now.

Duh, see update below ...

Mine's not shiny like that - on the lowly XL (don't mind the dust and Cheech hair).

But seriously, no harsh glare off of mine. Kind of a fake leather texture - pretty standard plastic texture I think

I do apply 303 Aerospace Protectant to it ...

Update

I have a wicked sinus headache and I'm not firing on all cylinders. This is mine, it looks like the new unpainted valance I just got, so it's a matt finish and I don't think there's any paint on it:
