As in Black Hole.

Once your wallet hits the Schwarzschild radius, there's no turning back.

It begins with "There now, I think I'm done modding..."

You know you're being drawn in when a $30 shirt is way too expensive, but a $300 part for the Ranger is too good of a deal to pass up.
Got it  :like:

Here’s my take on it. This forum is really a very small percentage of actual Ranger owners. But, of that percentage I’m pretty certain that most on here are more discernible and educated of what they purchased and also what is expected from that investment. A very small amount have had bad experiences or decided it wasn’t for them. The balance of us are more than happy with our decisions to own one.

In the end it’s really what you want. If you’re happy with it paying for it is also not an issue. If not then every payment is like pulling teeth.
I agree with this. The number of Ranger owners on this forum are but a small percentage of the total owners out there so take the problems here for what it's worth. 51,000 miles in a little over 2 years and the only 2 problems I have had were fixed under warranty. Great truck!

? But there's a flip side to this too. Since the members here only represent a small number of owners there could also be a large number who aren't happy but don't participate on forums. We'll never know how many are out there and with only 12,500 members here it's not really a good calculation.

Sorry to be a downer and yes, I'm a blast at parties too! ???

yep sounds like a better fit to be in that Nissan. Brie Larson and guns n roses - tough to argue

My husband is in love with this woman. Always looks forward to the Nissan commercials to see if she’s in it.:inspect:

Ughhh.

If I needed another reason to NOT buy a Frontier, she could be it.

did you see the financing they are offering? 0% for 72 months. That should tell you that they cannot give them a way.

So I have a Ranger on order, and am either having second thoughts or just have too much time on my hands to research other options in more depth/detail. I don't want to get anyone offended here or play favorites, but these are MY opinions based on MY life experiences while on this planet.

Pros:
Actual "mid sized" truck (although this was considered FULL size about a decade ago)
Metal bumpers/not plastic skinned
Good HP and MPG for a truck in this class
Still an actual transmission vs some CVT garbage
Bare bones features (i don't want or like too many upgraded gadgets as my belief is: the more gadgets=the more problems)
Nice ride quality (I only was able to test ride a two year old, 20K, version and that was enough to convince me)
Price (obviously this is subjective to features and trim levels, but FORD is on average a $2,000 below to similar trim levels of others)
Looks (looks like a real truck IMHO)
Aftermarket accessories available

Cons:
Dependability (again, not trying to bash anyone, but I owned a few FORDs and a GM in the past that really burned me bad enough to strictly go Japanese for the last 20 years. All very good experiences. Again...MY EXPERIENCES).
Test drove the new Nissan Frontier last night...and impressed with the revamp (won't go into details, but impressed me to think twice about my Ranger)

I guess after comparing my list here, it's pretty obvious I still have strong reservations about the dependability of a FORD. I like the Ranger and obviously enough that I placed an order for one. BUT, after doing more research here and other forums, and speaking with other FORD owners, I'm getting the feeling I might have made a mistake based on my dependability needs. While most here I'm sure enjoy their vehicles, and those that didn't , probably left this forum, I was hoping the people left here could convince me or other that FORD is just as dependable as anyone else.

Yes, I know every auto manufacturer has issues, some more than others. I've been used to driving vehicles for the last twenty years with only worrying about gas and oil. Yes, wear and tear items were replaced, and a recall or TSB may have popped on the radar, but as a whole, I have had a very pleasant experience with Japanese brands. The vehicles were stored outside 24/7 from +100 degree summers to -20 degree winters. Snow, rain, hail, even had a tree fall on one. When it was time to trade up, the vehicles held their value very well, which was a big savings moving into a new vehicle.

I'm a hands on guy, and don't mind maintaining or tinkering with my vehicles if need be. I consider myself a professional parts changer :giggle: and am comfortable working on a carbureted motor to an EFI. Brakes, hoses, some electrical, trim etc....I've either done it or attempted to do it and learned in the process.

So now that you know a bit more of my background, please convince me that my future Ranger was a good call to make?? Thank you in advance to those that will contribute. I will take your feedback to heart :like:
They all have their attributes. Pick one and buy it. Chances are you’ll love whatever you get.
For me, the Ranger with the Ford performance tune and Fox 2.0 was exactly what I wanted. 10 speed transmission, decent payload, good power and visibility...works for me!

While the 0% itself is not that uncommon, it is VERY uncommon to see it offered on a newly redesigned vehicle.

Personally I think the new Frontier looks decent and has a very nice interior, but Nissan built it on the old underpinnings so it apparently still drives like the old one.

I haven't driven one (and I won't be driving one as long as the memory of my 2018 Frontier is still fresh) but by most accounts the new 300+hp V6 is underwhelming and performs no better than the old 4.0.

... Pick one and buy it. Chances are you’ll love whatever you get...
This.

Anyone on this board who has a Ranger could've bought a Tacoma, or a Colorado, or a Frontier instead.

By the same token anyone who bought one of the others could've bought a Ranger.

Get what you like and find an enthusiast community and you'll likely be happy.

I think it's interesting to see the different approaches auto makers use in marketing. For me Ford's commercials aren't that creative, I think Toyota and GM have better marketing efforts, both appealing to wide range of buyers and this contributes to the brands ability to sell some arguably inferior models - like Tacos and RAVs .

That's precisely why my closet is filled with old wore out shirts yet the garg

Spoke with Ranger owner at local gas stn and asked him about experience with vibration or fuel dilution. He is not a forum member and was blissfully unaware about any of those issues so commonly reported on this site. Just an example of the small sample size this forum represents

First of all, it's your money and your decision. I find the size of the Ranger to be perfect. Not too big and not too small. I would argue your point about the Ranger being considered a full sized truck 10 years ago, because a 2012 F-150 is about the same size as today's F-150. Even a 2002 F-150 is significantly larger then today's Ranger comparing model to model.

Second, with regards to the reliability concern the current Ranger has been known to be one of Ford's most reliable models. It does well in JD Power and Consumer Reports vehicle reliability studies. There aren't a lot of major issues with the Ranger. The only one that shows up around here is fuel in the oil, but that an issue of everyone being paranoid because a handful of owners have a real problem with it. How many engine failures have there been? I'm sure a few as with any vehicle, but not a major issue. The T6 has a good reputation around the world as being a rock solid and dependable truck. This could change with the updated model coming because Ford has been known to struggle with new models, but the current one is an excellent vehicle.
