Of course we have the physical limitation of a four banger, but with that said - products have been out long enough to circulate.

So my question posed, whether exhaust with a muff delete, or an exhaust with a down pipe, or any combination of products, has the community started formulating an opinion on what products are producing the deepest tone? This is not necessarily a question of which combination of products produce the most stats on power.

We have lots of videos out now, but we all know sound is not properly translated without higher end audio equipment.

Whats the downside to dumping all that exhaust right under the truck? Won't it much up the bottom quicker? Just curious.
I doubt it but i am not 100% sure. You are mostly moving when in the car so if it did I think it would be so minimal you wouldn’t notice.

MBRP 3" turn down. Surprisingly deep. No cracky 4cyl ricer BS.
The turn down make that much more of a difference compared to a dual exhaust?

My truck stays running with the dogs in it pretty often.

I don’t think there’s any way possible to make a 4 cylinder sound any different than what it is. I don’t want my mid size pick up to sound like a 4-cyl car. Just my opinion.

I welded in a flowmaster 10 knock off from summit racing. I love it. Super deep. I didn't want the cackle or high pitch either. I'll recommend it to anyone. There are some clips online from another guy that did it. Cheap too. ~40 bucks for the muffler and another 10 maybe for the pipe extension.

It is possible to get a deep tone out of a 4 cylinder. You just need to find a combination of the right size exhaust pipe diameter, type/length of resonator and muffler combination to get the tone you want. In my experience many baffled and straight through mufflers tend to be harsher and do not do as well at quieting down the individual pulses that give you the brappy sound. A multi-pass or multi-chamber muffler that cancels out much of the pulses leaving a deeper tone as a result. This tone is usually only present at low rpm, then is lost in the higher rpm range, or too quiet to hear at freeway speeds. Any good exhaust shop should be able to provide several options based on what you want as long as you are very clear with them.

So I ran into that issue with a downpipe and the MBRP. Any RPMs above 2,000 sounded too much like a riced out honda. After adding an additional resonator which deepened the exhaust at idle I finally discovered the answer. I installed a exhaust insert into each of the resonators which seemed to do the trick. Below is a link to the exhaust I have and the insert I installed is the same version only the diameter matches the exhaust at 3 inches. hope this helps!

Pretty much every exhaust thread on this forum, and others, has posts that overwhelmingly boil down to this:

"The exhaust on my truck has, without a doubt, the best sound"

It's all based on personal opinion. I still can't believe anybody likes rap music

And anybody that states the tone is "deep" needs to re-calibrate their ears. That's why Ford designed the piped in engine noise. Deep is unobtainium on a 4-banger.

I had made a custom cat back 3" exhaust for my Cobalt turbo 2.0 that had a straight pipe with a Blox shorty 12"...it was also catless and the net exhaust effect was very low and powerful thumping...

I went with the Magnaflow which I'm happy with (of course) - otherwise I would have opted for the MBRP, but my opinion is from the descriptions and comparing admittedly lousy Youtube vid's audio.

I think the key to a deep tone is going to be a muffler that has a large internal baffle - like going from a trumpet to a tuba.

Not sure how exhaust diameter plays in and whether a resonator helps or hurts your goals here.

Look into this. Has a deep tone you may like.
