@Superdannyboy
Just going by the measurements listed I got 183.68 sq. in. for the K&N black, and 148.37 sq. in. for the aFe pro. About a 24% difference.
I vaguely recall having to carefully/forcefully maneuvre the cone that came with the Mishi CAI into the hole, but that was 10 months ago... Either way I'm headed to Reno to get the K&N today, along with some other loot, so I'll let you how it fits.
You're right about visible fouling and I couldn't find a pre-bag to fit on summit.com, but ain't y'all got that red dirt down there in TX anyway?!
I got 711 square inches and my rough measurements of the stock filter I got 586 square inches.

With the filter I got it was like 611 square inches.

Here's what I put in for the k&n filter you posted.

I wouldn't worry about the square inches of the filter. Even the stock filter can flow more air without restriction than the engine can use.

@Superdannyboy You're inputting diameter in the radius field. Need to halve those numbers.

I multiplied the diameters by 3.14 to find circumferences and then calculated the area of the resulting trapezoid. Not precise but close enough for me.

@Dgc333 More surface area = greater capacity for fouling = longer filter life. Personally I can't be bothered cleaning a filter and certainly can't be bothered oiling one for that matter. Plus this one costs $69 (niiiiiiice). We may just have to agree to disagree.

Hahahaha doh!! I can't believe I did that. Fair enough, thanks.

@Superdannyboy I'm neither a perfectionist nor a math whiz, believe me. Just got lucky this time.
No it is a good thing you caught it for sure. I'm still wondering how to know when that black filter is dirty.

I'm not currently using my inner fender liners since I completely removed my fenders and the long travel upper arm even hits the engine bay sheet metal under the air box at full compression. But since I'm not I'm allowing extra dirt.into.the engine bay so I'm going to cut my inner fender liners to use just enough to keep the engine bay cleaner.

@Superdannyboy heads up the K&N Black doesn't quite fit into the Mishi box, and the inside diameter is also too small (4½" ID Mishi, 4" ID K&N)

I figured the furthest end of the filter being a bigger diameter than stock would be the potential issue.
I used a 4" inlet that's what I measured my mishi filter to be. It was a tight fit but it fit around the 90° elbow.

@Superdannyboy Here are the snags I hit.

Aha the second photo shows the bottom not being able to fit because the diameter at the opposite end is too big! Precisely as I suspected! (I just wanted to sound like doc from back to the future)
Well back to the drawing board. AFE for the win as a cheaper backup so far!

@Superdannyboy Hard to tell because of the shadow but the bottom end (8") was actually too big to fit through the opening (7¾"). So I don't know if the top end would've hit the inside of the airbox or not.

Haha this is what I enjoy. It would've been cool if it fit. Until next time! I only checked the filters that were in stock that day for pickup so there could still be others. I'll probably just stick with the AFE that I got.
