The afe filter is dry I'll throw it in the gutter and go and buy another.
I was replacing the mishimoto oiled filter that can be washed and reoiled but I didn't want to do that.
#1 killer of MAF sensors when I was a benz tech were customers over oiling their filters, I am in the same boat as you. I replace the filters even though they can be washed.

Simple solution; follow the instructions for oiling. Plus the Ranger doesn't even have a MAF sensor so it's a moot point.

There's 3 reasons why I'm in the boat.
1) I'm just not sure what washing does to the filter material like am I degrading the material with each wash cycle?
2) I don't want to over do it with the oiling
3) Filters are relatively inexpensive so it doesn't hurt to buy 2 or 3 a year

im sure its impressive when combined with other mods. upgrading the intercooler is always a good idea ive seen a few options on the market for the ranger 2.3
For sure, I've noticed that lack of power after flooring it enough times. It feels great a few times then not so much.

Yeah, my main reason it is cheap enough to just replace and I don't need to hassle with it. I know someone who has 2 filters and just cycles through them so he can take his time doing it right, I just don't have time for that considering the cost of filters.

Fair enough but point being not everyone does follow directions or interprets the directions correctly. Plus it is cheap enough to replace mine 1-2 times a year, especially in comparison to the cost of filling the fuel tank.

i think it will go up the more you drive. when i did the fpp flash with procal i noticed my mpg went back to zero. its slowly working its way back up. into the low 20s now and i figure thats likely where it will stay.

Yeah I feel ya, I have the stock 265/70/17 and use 91 only. I get a little better, usually 14mpg but want to go 275/70/17 next time. Worried what 285/70/17 would do to my MPG. Even when I baby it, I can only do about 15-17mpg calculated. All good though, want to do the FPP tune sooner than later though.

I am mostly city driving BTW, Hwy I can get about 21mpg if I stick to 70-75mph and keep it smooth. My cluster will say 22-23mpgbut math will show 20-21mpg.

so i went and watched the video from project farm on air filters. pretty interesting and worth a watch. did not shock me, i knew the kn would have some benefit in terms of power but was kinda the loser in terms of cleaning the air going in..

Just going by the measurements listed I got 183.68 sq. in. for the K&N black, and 148.37 sq. in. for the aFe pro. About a 24% difference.
I vaguely recall having to carefully/forcefully maneuvre the cone that came with the Mishi CAI into the hole, but that was 10 months ago... Either way I'm headed to Reno to get the K&N today, along with some other loot, so I'll let you how it fits.
You're right about visible fouling and I couldn't find a pre-bag to fit on summit.com, but ain't y'all got that red dirt down there in TX anyway?!
