Chrome Bug Deflector / Hood Deflector for Ford Ranger with Photos

Sounds silly to ask I know, but what does the view look like through the windshield in the driver's seat now with it on? I tried ordering the matt black textured version from Lasco Ford online, what a night mare that was... sent me the shiny smoke one instead even though the paperwork had the correct part number, they took forever to get a refund and they tried to charge me a 15% restocking fee even though it was their mistake.

Have been debating still putting a hood protector on, really don't want to see something sticking up but that OEM style (not the one with the lip from Ford) looks like it shouldn't.

So I'm thinking, this time I'll order from the local Ford dealer's parts department.

I got the matte black Ford one from my local dealer no problem. They could only get the stick on one and I love it. The black finish matches all the other black trim on my truck and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Helps a little with bugs on the windshield also.

I hope to get the textured matte black one without the lip that is a stick on. I know they make a version now with the lip in the textured matte black but I don't like that one as much. It would be more for protection than bug deflector, I already got one ding in the front of the hood from a FedEX truck pulling out in front of me on the highway when he swerved wide onto the berm of the road and kicked rocks back. Thankfully dent removal guy got it out and even buffed out 95% of the paint scratch. Did cost me a $100 deductible though.

I have the black appearance package so it should match some of the black. Door handles are more of a matte black, but then there is black glossy paint front of truck.

I ordered the textured matte black OEM one (the one without the lip) the other day from the Ford accessory site. They had a 15% off till end of the month. Had it shipped to local dealer but I will install myself. Should maybe be here today or tomorrow. Figured I'd better get it before it gets on the discontinued list.

I am definitely not a fan of chrome bug shields. I have been blinded by them on sunny days before. If/when I get a bug deflector, it will be matte black. I don't want anything that will reflect the sun and blind me or other drivers.

Thanks. The only thing I noticed today driving into town in torrential down pour with wipers on, on the driver's side windshield wiper the lower half's rubber blade was not swiping smoothly. I can't see how the aerodynamics would be affected since the hood protector is flush, so I'm not really sure what the problem is. I only just turned 10,000 miles so I don't know if the wiper blade could be worn already.

Thanks. The only thing I noticed today driving into town in torrential down pour with wipers on, on the driver's side windshield wiper the lower half's rubber blade was not swiping smoothly. I can't see how the aerodynamics would be affected since the hood protector is flush, so I'm not really sure what the problem is. I only just turned 10,000 miles so I don't know if the wiper blade could be worn already.

Mine doesn't affect my wipers. Try cleaning the wipers with isopropyl alchohol. The Canadian smoke and particles made Mine squeak.

Thanks, will try that. We have had several days of the smoke haze over recent weeks.

Val, like Ed said try cleaning them good with either alcohol or even silicone spray, not WD40. Just keeping the windshield clean will help too. All the crud on the windshield just gets embedded into the rubber on the wipers over time. That'll de-grease them and lube them and they should swipe like new again.

Also, you want to make sure they're coated and protected and they'll last longer. I coat mine with the 303 Graphene (big surprise I know ) every time I detail my truck. The Aerospace protectant would work great too. Doing this, my 2019 had the original wipers and still worked like new.

I have a large pack of those little alcohol prep packs so I can give them a good swiping. I have the 303 Graphene too, so I can try that too. Good idea, thanks. Supposed to be in the mid 90's the next couple days and no rain so I'll have to wait until the next rain to see if that took care of it. I was checking out the wipers before I got in the truck to drive home from work and I see the blades are just a piece of flexible rubber... never noticed that. Not like the rigid blades on my Mountaineer.
