Oh, didn’t notice those.
I’ve never used my switch panel. Nice to have, though.
And to be fair, maybe the new rangers have a trailer brake?

Well, in next 24 hours this thread might be dead in the water.

A dealership 150 miles from me as a Sand Dune ZR2 arriving August 28th and the original buyer backed out. Price is within a few thousand above my spec, but that is because it got ordered with a sunroof and bose premium sound system. Barf.

Oh well, I can work with that still. Holding the sale for me so I can mull this over...

Not sure Raptor gonna win out this fight... could be driving a new truck in just a few weeks.

Good job on locating, a soon to be available, ZR2 in your color of choice.
By the time you have it outfitted the way you want the RR will be scheduled for production. Then with delays, you can have it in your driveway 18 months from today.

Looking forward to hear about what develops in this new vehicle journey.

This wouldn’t be a bad move. The ZR2 looks great.

I have read the repayment of student loans starts October and it will get interesting after that with less buyers qualifying for loans on major purchases. I bet orders start piling up on lots by the end of the year that buyers can no longer afford. People in certain areas are tapped out so it may mean widening your search area.

So now I need to figure out the most convient choice if I go through with this.

Local Ford dealer out right buy truck for $35,000 - after paying loan balance that leaves $16,000 cash in my pocket. Projected Plan: $10,000 down on new vehicle. However I have to paya one time tax in GA called the TAVT which will total $3,961 out of pocket too as I will not roll such a large amount into the loan. This leaves (rounding) $2,000 to start re-modding. Kind of paltry to be honest.

or

Trade in at out of state dealership, which only want suspension/wheels/tires for $30,000 giving me $11,000 towards new purchase. Georgia honors a trade in credit on TAVT, basically traded in value deducted from total on new vehicle, difference is the amount taxed. This comes out to a TAVT of $1,591 - an amount small enough I would just roll it into the loan instead of utilizing liquid cash.

More or less my down payment this way would still be an effective (roughly) $10,000, same as before, but I also retain a hell of a lot more parts I could re-use with a value at $5,000+ vs having $2,000 cash in hand and no parts.

The trade off is having to go into demo mode on the truck and deconstructing a lot of stuff and cleanly repairing now void areas. And JC on a pogo stick it is hot outside...

Also a downside is refabbing old parts when I really want to move forward with new designs. AKA retaining my current steel RCI rack and steel platform fabrication instead of moving onto to the light weight 8020 extruded aluminum rack and platform design.

Basically I could pimp out the new truck almost immediately, but be rolling old hat instead of moving onto more innovative stuff.

Or just drive my truck to one dealer, hand over keys, get my money and be done with it.

Trailer brake controller and even the Ford auto trailer-backer-upper system is available on the new Ranger. Forget what it’s actually called. ?

if it was me, I would just sell to the dealer and figure out the money on the new one. Maybe a couple thousand less on the down payment. Over the loan life it won‘t make much difference. I can hear it your voice, so to speak, that you really don’t won’t to break down that truck or keep much of the parts.

This is a difficult situation.
In Kalifornia we don't get a sales tax break towards trading in on a new vehicle.
No surprise there.
When I sold my Tremor I was glad the dealership was happy to take it with the 5k worth of non factory additions. Yes, I could have removed every item and left next to no damage or ill effects and sold the leftover parts for maybe 2k. Then I have to arrange boxing and shipping of said parts.
Just not worth it for me.

If your local Ford dealer will give you 35k on trade. What will they give for an outright purchase of your truck?
Then purchase ZR2 from out of state dealer.

The options you stated seem to workout about the same, dollar wise.
I always enjoy building up vehicles. But just don't have the enthusiasm for deconstructing.

We are definitely lucky to live in this great country that provides so many choices in vehicles to purchase for our enjoyment and entertainment.

The $35,000 offer is just a straight up buy out or the trade in when the Raptor came in. Same dollar amount either way. He said if they buy it out they can just give me a check or let the amount sit on the books till Ranger arrived.

I mean it would not be the end of the world. It would be sort of nice to have parts sitting in my garage ready to transfer over and be ready to hit the outdoors right away without any down time.

I could always roll old hat and over time start fabricating my new design in the background as the piggy bank fills back up.

The new Canyorado twins are a seriously good looking truck.

From what I've read though, it's not much, if any, stronger than a stock Ranger.

I'd have expected it to at least run with a mildly tuned EB 2.3.

But then this is second hand info being regurgitated as I haven't driven one myself yet.

Maybe soon.
