So last month I installed a new Chinese intercooler......below
IMG_7381.jpg

Yesterday I was on the phone to the Garrett dealer in Bangkok where I bought my upgraded turbo for my 3.2 Widetrack. I was asking him about recommendations for new injectors for my truck as I want to push the turbo boost to 28psi. He told me not to waist my money on injectors but to install a Garret Pro Max Intercooler the same one he showed me when I bought the Turbo. I told him that I had already installed a intercooler and sent him the above picture...............he was mortified
He ask me why did I buy a cheap Chinese intercooler that will perform less than the stock intercooler. We got talking on the phone and he kept saying you have the best of everything on your truck but you screw it up by adding a cheap nasty intercooler. He asked me to take my truck for a drive for 30 minutes then stop the engine pull the hood and put my hand on the intercooler pipe on the right side (after the intercooler)........I couldn't, it was very very hot.

I hung up the phone and sent him the money for the Garrett intercooler............I will have it installed next week. Then once installed I will have the tuner remap the ECU to 28psi boost

Hi Neil,

I believe it refers to the lower internals of the engine....Crankshaft, Main caps, lowere end of the rods etc. As opposed to the cylinder head for example.

The owner of the Garrett dealership here in Thailand says my engine and new turbo can handle a maximum of 28 psi turbo boost. So that is the number I will tell the tuner to aim for. Once it’s done I will give you all some feedback ........., even the clown OFC Ranger???

I’m not sure but my current boost is 20psi after being remapped.......... and the truck is super quick and very smooth......... I just want to push it a little more seeing as I have spent a bunch of money on new turbo, new intercooler, paddle shifters and lots of cosmetic stuff

When the good intercooler is installed. Please do the 30 min test and report if discharge pipe is as hot as the Chinese version. Is there a big noticeable difference?

Your correct about me not knowing a lot about engines, hence I ask a lot of questions. The owner of Worldtech Thailand the biggest Garrett distributor here in Thailand is a guy called Khun Viras, he assures me that my new turbo and engine block are plentiful strong enough to handle 28psi boost. The Tuner Khun Wat is Phuket's number one tuner and he also a a reputation to take care of............they are both happy to help me with my engines modification which also makes me very happy...............I should have the modifications completed by the end of the week.
Pictures to follow

while a reputation is at stake, who's dime pays for the damages if they go to far? You pay them to push the limit.

I dont pretend to guess at the background of these guys, or the knowledge they have, but when limits are pushed, you are bound to have failures. its simply a matter of circumstance and luck.

basically, if it passes a dyno test after the install, you get a nice printout to post online for all your friends to see.
they lived up to their reputation, or do they have your back down the road as you test their longevity of their work and ultimately add to their knowledge base.
Sounds like your as excited as me................its going to be awesome buddy :) :) :)
