Hey all,

This notification popped up on my drive home tonight. Anyone have any idea?

Gonna connect my OBDLink EX to it tomorrow, but wondering if anyone has had this pop up.

Most likely code P0128 - Engine not reaching operating temperature in an allotted time - usually a sticking open thermostat or a bad sensor reading from the ECT - Correction the Cold Start Monitor is driven by the CHT (Temperature Rise) as its compared to the other temp sensors (AMB and IAT) from cold start, after I posted I realized my mistake

Thank you for the response, much appreciated. Easy fix?

Got the same exact alert two days ago - P0128. It may be coincidental, but I got the alert (and check engine light) the first time I used my heater this season. The check engine light has gone off and I will keep an eye on this.

As far as easy fix - the manuals call for TB (removal) for access, but it may be possible to R&R without pulling it - I would have to take a closer look.
The hardest hurdle would be a proper bleed of the system a good quality vacuum fill (Tool) is the best method.

I would verify (Cold Soaked) engine - and check all Temp Sensor readings to verify they all match withing a few degrees and then monitor (ECT and CHT) temps with engine running and at operating temp as well as watch the (IPC) gauge - is the temp lower than normal.
Also verify the code (P0128)
If the temp sensors are verified (matching) and still lower than normal temp indication - replace the T-Stat.
As far as bleeding the system, since I have not had mine opened up (yet) , I do know from other member posts that bleeding this system can be a pain to get all the air evacuated , mainly it gets trapped in the heater core.

As far as - Code Setting - I cannot locate any documented (real numbers) on what the monitor looks for - I know its dependent on (Ambient) Temp and (Engine Starting-Temp) and how long (duration) it takes to reach normal operating temp, if the cold start monitor fails to see a crossed threshold - it sets the P0128 code.
My rough - calculation is - does it reach 170 deg - after 10-15 minutes, all dependent on actual driving condition - Idle - Load - Driving Speed, as 170 deg appears to be a factor in the monitor and it appears to take (2 drive cycles) failed to actually set the code.

"...can cause the engine from reaching..." Somebody at Ford flunked grade school English lessons...
