Just curious how many miles you have on your Ranger? Just making a note for when it's time to do mine.

I wish I could give you good information. My truck has only 34,000 miles on it. The rears were in bad shape. I have no idea as to why. Front is fine.

True -Some Dealers mark up prices, IDK why.
I use OEM Ford Parts Direct, local (30-Minute's) drive. They closely match Bennys prices but cheaper since - No Shipping Charges are involved.
These price mark ups can be as high as $600 as I found out with my Headlight Assemblies $1700 vs $ 1100 each.
When I questioned this price difference to my local dealer, they stated that must be a website error as there was no way possible they could sell them at that price.
Come to find out, I sourced the headlight assemblies from the exact same warehouse on the same shelf (location) for the lower price.
Explain That - So it makes sense without blatantly admitting price gouging.

Good tip. I always check Ford Parts or Levittown first. I know Woody Anderson in Huntsville, AL is legit because I needed to replace a swollen wheel nut and it was the exact price as online.

What's a swollen wheel nut?

Yep...

an AC Condenser for my Transit Connect

- Ford Dealer $367.
- Parts.Ford.com. $257. free shipping or pick it up at the Ford Dealer who charges $367
- Levittown Ford $147. Plus $100 shipping.

Oh and the Ford dealer will charge $1500 to install it plus the parts.

Then there is the local trusted repair show that will charge $850 to install, R&R freon, and parts.

Not going to do much service work at the dealer now. New vehicles and warranty work.

To the owner of the shop; the shop is a business, a profit making venture. The shop generates revenue from parts sales as well as piggybacking on labor revenue which they use to pay employees and insurance and overhead. No surprise, as a headlight doesn't cost $550, the techs do not pocket $150/hr personally.

Once you meet your overhead costs, what do you suppose happens to the extra money?

Now do you see why their parts prices do not match?

Quick edit to say, fyi, I'm no cosigner of greed.

Are not factors to establishing a Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) by the manufacturer so that a fair profit is obtained by the seller and also giving the manufacturer cover because I was told that that was the price Ford charges (Ford gets the blame) when in actuality it was the dealer setting the price?
We live in a capitalist society. The dealership could have just as easily said that was the price and be done with it. I could have walked away or I may not go back based on my perceived treatment.
They decided that they wanted my continued business and a good rating on the Ford survey to decide to charge me MSRP.
