In reference to our upcoming travel trailer purchase, and the expected 10 mpg many of you have posted about while towing, do any of you carry an extra container of gas with you ?
We do a lot of our traveling on secondary roads and US tagged roadways, and in our motor home with a 55 gallon tank, haven't had any problems finding fuel. But with the Ranger's 180-200 mile range while towing, I'm thinking ahead.
What about you members that boondock and overland...do you carry an extra 5 gallons with you ? And, if you do, what type of really good container do you use. Obviously, would be kept in the bed.
Would only carry when on the road...not for everyday around town use.

Glad to see I'm not the only one thinking ahead or being prepared.

This is definitely something I'm interested in as well as our travels are a lot like yours. I know there is a 36 gallon aftermarket tank available but really I've only ever felt like an extra 4-5 gallons would be needed and I don't like the fact it hangs down below the frame rails.

Pardon my ignorance, but is there an issue getting the fuel in the tank because of the capless filler tube?

I carry 4 gals in Rotopax on the side of the bed rack and another 5 in a Jerry Can in the bed for longer trips.

You'd have to use the funnel that comes with the truck and just be careful pouring it. It's slow but it works. :)

I would use a large funnel, not the itty bitty one in the Ranger's jack storage pouch.
